Like several other RAS visitors I bought GPL and CMR yesterday.

I never look forward to installing these things. Something always goes
wrong, usually because of general W95 ropiness.

Firstly GPL.
- Kept on getting a -115 error at about 89% install. Turned out I had a file
called system32 in my windows directory which was preventing GPL creating a
c:\windows\system32\drivers directory. After that all went smoothly. Set up
my Digitial Edge (with the seperate brake / accelerator switch thrown) using
the generic driver and went for serveral looong laps.

Secondly CMR.
- Installed OK, ran up ok. But I can only set it up for keyboard play.

First problem:
I have completely failed to setup direct input to correctly use my wheel
with three axis (wheel on J1 X, accelerator on J1 Y, brake on J2 X). I have
tried in the past for use with F1RS. Anyone mastered this one?
(thankfully GP2 and GPL are fine with this setup)

Second problem:
I switched back to a standard joystick layout and tried both the TM (with
adapter), a standard joystick with 4 buttons, and a custom setup.
DirectInput is ok with this, but CMR does not seem to be. CMR now recognises
I have a joystick, I set all axis to be analogue (accelerator and brake
default to digital) and move on to the button assignment screen. Here, CMR
refuses to let me setup any joystick buttons (gear up / down / handbrake
etc), only allowing keyboard assignments. Even with mixed keyboard /
joystick the game does not work as expected.
Has anyone managed to setup an analogue device and associated buttons with
CMR, or is it just me?

My Formula (Nascar) Pro set to separate pedals gives me no brakes with CMR.
Have to set to combined.

Works ok then though - & I can use the gearshift & other buttons for
handbrake & camera.

Its a pain though cos I have to set the switch for GPL (separate) & CMR
(combined) & reboot & recalibrate to switch between games.

Got both yesterday!

After driving the GPL demo only for so long, driving GPL after CMR feels
mighty twitchy!

After GPL had destroyed ALL other cars sims for me I am impressed with CMR.

Got both a Digital Edge F1 Sim on one box and a TSW Sport on another running CMR
but I don't think it supports separate brake/throttle. Yes, CMR is a great sim
(as is GPL) - have you mastered the handbrake turns yet? I'm still falling off a
lot of corners.

Ufff, save yourself some time! I NEVER reboot after switching joysticks
or
joystick configurations. Surprisingly Win95 is capable to do this
dynamically
(esp. as changing a beeping IP-address needs a boot... ;^)

BTW, isn't it time that all game developers are sent to school regarding
joystick support?? It's the most commonly screwed up part of driving
sims...
