Colin McRae Rally - steering wheel problems

by Kamrat Thoma » Sun, 11 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Hye,
I do have a problem with the new fantastic Rally game.
I have the F1 SIM Compact stearing wheel (digital edge) and tried to
install it without success. Does anyone know what the problem may be.
With GP2 the stearing wheel works good.
But it seems that the program doesn't recognise the stearing wheel at
all (no chance to turn in options from keyboard to anything else - but
it works when I have my Gravis Joypad installed but with it ther's no
fun:-)).
Probably someone knows what to do !

Send me an email

thanx

GP2 accesses the controller directly. CMR accesses it through Windows. Forgive me if
I'm teaching my grandmother to suck eggs but:
Start/Settings/Control Panel
Game Controllers
Add - use Thrustmaster T1/T2 with adapter wheel near the bottom of the list (if you've
got separate [independant] brakes and throttle [I don't know if CMR supports this] you
should get more wheel definitions from the Thrustmaster site by downloading ProPanel)
Properties
Calibrate
Then follow the instructions,
Paul

What have you thought I tried all the time.
But the computer tells me all the time, that my Stearing wheel is not connected!! :-(

Any other suggestions?

Hi Thomas,

Does a regular joystick work?  2 axis 2 button?

If your using Propanel, I had to setup my T2 in the regular Windows Joystick Setup screen
before Windows would see it in Propanel.  You can erase the setup from Windows Joystick
Setup after Propanel sees it.

If your using Win98, DONT use Propanel (It is for Win95 only).

Jason.

But the F1 Sim Compact is 2-axis 4-button (unless you've switched to 3-axis 4-button). It
works well as a Thrustmaster T1/T2 with adapter which is also 2-axis and 4-button,

Sometimes it's just Win95, go figure.  Do give ProPanel a try for Win95
(not needed for Win98 as Microsoft finally got it right).

There have been occasions when Win95 would stop recognizing my T1 or
NASCAR Pro.  I've never been totally sure why.  But I am usually able to
coax it back to recognizing it by first unplugging the unit and removing
all entries in ProPanel (or the Game Controllers or Joystick applet).
Then I plug a simple joystick in and enter it into ProPanel, calibrate
it and test it.  Then I can unplug the joystick and remove it from
ProPanel and the then Win95 loves to see my wheel.

Tips:  Ensure that your wheel is Device ID #1 or the only device
Try unchecking the Rudder option in the properties or checking it
If it comes down to it, try re-installing DirectX
