Steering wheel with demo of Colin McRae Rally 3

Hi,

Just downloaded the demo of Colin McRae Rally 3 today.  I have a microsoft
force feedback steering wheel.  As soon as a stage is uploaded the central
tension of the steering wheel disappears.  That is to say if I turn left,
for example, the steering wheel does not spring back to its central position
of its own accord.  This makes the car rather difficult to steer.

Is there anything I can do about this problem?  I've tried installing it to
windows XP and windows 2000, but the problem is there on both.  I was going
to buy the real game, but if this problem is still there on the real game I
won't bother.

Any help much appreciated.

Download the patch for the demo. It updates the controls to that of
the retail game, which do work.

Andrew.

No I did that.  You've given me a thought though.  Maybe it will work if I
don't apply the patch . . hmmm

Silly question, maybe, but do you actually have FFB turned on in the
game? -The CMR3 demo defaults to "off" on my computer.

Yes I have it turned on.  Sent an e-mail to codemasters to see if they can
suggest anything.

I thought it was supposed to turn the centering off, in real cars the
steering doesn't just spring back to centre unless they are moving.
I haven't tried CMR3 so I don't know for sure that's what you're referring
to.

Well, it was ok in CMR2 and all other racing games.  It's too difficult to
steer otherwise because obviously I don't know in what position the steering
wheel should be in to drive straight.

Surely it can't supposed to be like that???  :-O

Do you drive any other sims ?
Personally, I hate automatically centering steering wheels. All the sims I
drive center the steering based on what the car is doing, which suits me
just fine :)
