It's on this month's PC Zone (exclusive). Codemasters are no doubt bound to
release it sooner or later...

Having just played it:

Graphics are o.k, it's quite appraent this is TOCA engined....

There are quite a few setup options, suspension brakes, ride height, etc...

Not that i could change any of them in the demo, it would seem

Despite my joystick plugged in, control in the demo is limited to keyboard,
which is somewhat a pain, as it's hard with keys ;)

There are the standard selection of in game view

far, close,***pit, headlight, and windscreen view (seeing the front of the
car).

Nicky Grist keeps you company with Pace notes, though i must say i found it
hard to concentrate on his voice- i suspect their must be options for volume
level of the different sounds, and that this need correcting.

One Special Stage is featured, on the NZ Rally, 70% wet mud, 30% wet gravel.

It takes about 4 minutes to complete- well, first time for me at least, and
frankly i was appalling. the car setup provided is too neutral, to hard to get
the back out.

Hmm

I think it's probablly the best rally game/sim out there, but i think it's
wheel material. Not for the faint-hearted or joystick/keyboard endowed.

Further to my previous post:

There are two stages, at least, one Oz, one NZ.

They seem to alternate.

I didi mange to figure out the setup thingees, (damn i'm stupid) and with
brake balance at the rear, and slightly softer suspension it's a lot more
playable. :)

The Australian stage is quite cool in that unlike most rally games, arcade,
etc, the "boundary walls" are a condsiderable distance from the track.

I've flown well off.

heh.

Though, i have to say i think that's it's too hard to roll. I've done some
really dumb moves which i'm sure shoudl result in going rollin'. (that said,
it is possible, but perahps only as a result of hitting a tree)

Wonder how the handbrake will work in the
full version. Presumably keyboard controlled ?

Exclusive ??? I had the demo for about a month. Was on the cover cd of
german magazine gamestar.

There should be three stages. The german demo had New Zealand,
Australia and Monte Carlo.
Learn to use the brake :0)
It's possible. If you race the Australian stage, there's a long
straight in the middle of the stage. I tried hittng a tree going 180,
and the car rolled several time.

Sounds like a throwback to the TOCA cars, which
were quite difficult to roll.

Exclusive means within a magazine's key market. I.e, in the UK only this
month on PC Zone

Have not come across Monte Carlo yet.

Yes, but seemingly only if you hit a tree. I've clipped some banks at some
really *** angles, and no roll- hmm, seems to be a limitation?

Hit a bank just a few corners up the stage Monte Carlo, and you tip
the car on to the side.
Did that until I learned how to use the break :-)

No doubt that is a ship date, but on a monday, it's not a street date.
Codemasters have it as the 9th (the street date)

(Ship date is date by which the Distribution centres have to recieve copies
by, to make the street date).

if game or indeed anyone is shipping/selling to the public before the friday,
they can be fined under ELSPA's trading codes.

That's absurd - there's no way I'll buy any TOCA-based game until
they've proven to me that they've fixed the horrible steering/input
problems in that game engine.

So what is wrong with the steering input? Always worked fine for me. Actually
TOCA2 will use direct access to for racing controllers - what device have you
got that doesn't work?

Go round Druids at Brands Hatch to fast a turn too sharply if you want to roll. I
try not to.

I managed to roll twice on the australian "track" and still set fastest sector
time over McRae's "best time" in the one where I rolled.

As for TOCA being hard to roll, how many times have you ever seen a Super
Tourer roll without hitting someone/something first? TOCA was pretty accurate
in that respect, it was just way out in the rest of the crashes.
