Colin McRae Rally demo is a dud ?

by : ) » Sat, 10 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Hello all,

I just finished downloading the Codemasters Colin McRae Rally sim, and it
doesn't work. When I try to run the demo the screen goes black then goes
back to the windows 95 folder I was trying to run the program from.

Since I have directX5 and a Canopus Pure 3D(3dfx) card do I need to have
DirectX6 to run the demo ?. If not perhaps someone can tell me what the
magic word is to get things running ?.

All help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you not been reading this newsgroup before?????

The Colin McCrae demo that you have does not support 3dfx! It is not the
officially released Codemasters demo at all.

The game is supposed to be out today so go and buy it!

Does anyone know if there will be a new demo, as I prefer to try before I
buy.

I had the same problem with the full prog (got it today), because I decided
not to install direct x media, and intel i video (or something like that),
download those2 , install them and see what happens.

I`ve the same setup . Install DirectX6 now - that should solve your
problems. After I installed directx6 any problems I had disappeared
and it used the Canopus pure 3d for the display. Much better.

It's not as simple as DX6. I'm using it myself and CMR is still
a dud on my machine. My friend uses DX5 and it works on his.

I don't know what the real reason is, but there doesn't seem to
be any one thing that can be easily identified as compatible or
not compatible with the current non-official demo.

Is this THE ENZO that I know????

Also, folks, . . . DX6 has caused problems for MANY more folks than it has
helped. Don't install DX6 unless you do a FULL backup of your system - cause
it is a *** to get rid of if you don't like it!

CMR demo had transparent everything until I installed DX6 and it fixed
everything. Now I have the full retail version and I can tell you this is a
great game - love the rally school,
