My Logitech FF wheel won't work in the Colin McCrae Rally demo. Not
just the FF, the wheel/pedals don't work at all. I can't select
buttons for shifting, and in the game there's no
steering/acceleration. I have selected Steering Wheel in the
controller options. Any ideas?

What drivers are you using for your wheel?  I've been running the full
version with 3.12 Logitech drivers and the FF effects are great!
Instead, dump the demo and look for the full version, it's worth the
trouble.  If you live in Toronto I know of a couple of places downtown
where you can pick it up.  Or you can order it via the 'net at
http://www.interactcd.com

I have 3.12 as well. What kind of FF effects does it have? Is it just
terrain/collisions, or is there pull on turns and loose wheels on
skids/jumps?

Speaking from experience, I'd advise you not to consider the
demo as representative of the full game.  When I had the demo I was
unable to use my steering wheel and had numerous graphic glitches (no
texture filtering and translucent cars!).  The actual game, on the
other hand, runs very well for me.
I know it's risky (and bordering on stupid) to buy a
non-returnable game based on a leap of faith, but I've had no regrets
in ordering CMR.  Since I got it last year it's been second only to
GPL in terms of hours driven.

That's quite a testimonial, I'll think about it. How is the FF
implementation? Is it the lame type, just collision/terrain effects?
Or do the have wheel pull on turns, and loose wheel on tire slip and
jumps? If it has the latter type of quality FF (like Viper) then I'd
probably risk getting it.

Being an owner of a TM GP1, I unfortunately can't comment on
any of the FF effects.  From what I've been reading, though, Viper
Racing seems to be head and shoulders above everyone else in FF.
Given my glowing praise for it, I might as well add some
disclaimers.  If you didn't like TOCA1/TOCA2, don't get it.  If you
derived absolutely zero pleasure from the demo (bearing your wheel
problems in mind), don't get it.  As far as physics go, the game is
light fare compared to, say, N2 and GPL.  On a scale of realism I'd
rank it just above NFS1 and below Gran Turismo for the Playstation.
Compared to other rallying games, it is presently unmatched (despite
what others may say about RAC Rally, CMR is much better).

Ah, does it have that "turn on a dime" TOCA car physics? If so I
probably won't get it, I find that effect irritating.

Well, I couldn't run the demo at all. Maybe I'll try it with a
joystick. Thx.

Did try it with a joystick. I LOVE the driving model, very nice. I
want it. But, neither of the stores that carry imports in town here
have it. And since I don't own a credit card (as I don't believe
loan-sharking should be legal) I guess I'm out of luck.

Or rather Codemasters is out of luck. I'm actually pretty surprised
that after all these years they *still* haven't figured out a way to
get their software distributed in North America. Since there's no
rally game on the shelves here they are really screwing themselves out
of a golden opportunity.

Based on the time it took TOCA1 to get to North America, one
might expect to see CMR here by September!  By that time CMR2's could
very well be close to release in Europe...  It really is a shame and
stupid, too.
The only other Rally game recently available in North America
is Europress's International Rally Championship (sequel to RAC Rally)
which I suggest you avoid.

Yes, it's just terrible how you can scam money off these credit card
companies.  What are they thinking?  Give you a little piece of plastic
-at no cost- that you can use almost anywhere to buy whatever you want.
You can start enjoying the item right away, yet you don't have to
actually *pay* anything 'til about month later.  And as long as you pay
the bill in full each month (clearly, this is the kicker), the credit
card company doesn't charge *you* anything for the service.  Amazing!

Ah what fun is committing the sin of usury ... and the funniest thing
is that the victims LIKE it!
