Colin McRae & Steerin wheel problems

by Javy » Tue, 22 Feb 2000 04:00:00

Hi!

I've Celeron 300A (running with 450MHz), 64 Mb DRAM and a Matrox Millenium G200
8Mb AGP.

While playing Colin McRae Rally I can have all the details on and the game is
running smoothly and looks beautiful.

BUT if I use Logitech Formula steering wheel instead of keyboard, the car
obeys 0,5 sec after steering with the wheel. On a fair I experienced the
same with a MS steering wheel.

Is this about lack of processing power or what? Is it the same with every
steering wheel?  Anyway to fix this?

Thanks.

Try running your computer at it's normal speed, rather than overclocking
it...

I've only got a PII 266, and CMR runs like a champ with my LWFF...

PS: If that doesn't work, then you might want to upgrade to a better video
card, with more memory. That, and more ram are your two cheapest upgrades,
that will get you the most bang for your buck..

Overclocking shouldn't have  anything to do with it.  If anything, it helps.
check drivers and gameports.

Hi!

But mine's not a force feedback version. It's a 'forceless' Logitech
Wingman Formula and the problem was that there is a remarkable delay
between me steering and the car obeying. About 0.25 seconds or so.
Doesn't happen while playing some Formula games.

But maybe it's just normal for Colin McRae Rally. Some MS wheel did
exactly the same.

Here is a few things to try :

Make sure you have the latest directx version ! ( 7.0a I think is the
latest).
Also get the latest driver for the wheel from logitechs site.
And the latest driver for your graphics adapter.

Also, are you sure it is really a delay ?
Sometimes a large deadzone can give the impression of a steering delay ?
So make sure the x-axis deadzone is set as low as possible.

To get the deadzone down to 0 you may need the DXtweak utility :

I have not experienced any such problems with CMR using a LWFF, TM, TSW2
on a 400 Celery.
