I recently upgraded to a K6-3/450 and V3/3000 specifically for GPL but
am a little disappointed with the framerates. I am running on an Epox
MVP3E-m motherboard and at The Glen am only getting 15-17 fps at the
start and rising to about 30fps during the race. I thought I should
get more than this? I have 19AI and all graphics on.
I am using glide2x 2.61, I tried replacing this with ver 2.53 but GPL
won't accept 3dfx as the 3D accelerator with this versiion of Glide?
Any help would be appreciated.          

Reduce the detail slider, this is the biggest frame rate killer. Then try
mirrors to cars & tracks. I have the detail slider set one notch off min and
everything looks fine.

Also, add a fan to the V3 (if it doesn't already) and overclock both
the CPU and V3. Use powerstrip if the drivers don't allow
overclocking. The main problem is that the FPU in the K6 chips is
poor, that's what is the problem.

I also set up a system purely for GPL, but to get a good frame rate,
you really can't have the detail slider at full. Not much difference
anyway.

I recently upgraded to a K6-2 450 and V3/3000 and, like you, was
disappointed by the poor performance.  I, at that time, was running GPL 1.1
so with nothing to loose I tried 1.2 and the framerates improved
dramatically to a steady 36 most places (other that the race starts).

Sorry I can't come with a more technical answer, but what the hell, it
worked for me!
