Hi all , I've had a -ve GPLRank for a while now thanks to a quick ring
time - and yet I never really felt I was a negative GPLer because I had +ve
times at other tracks.

Until last night - all out push at Zandy ( manic ) , Monaco ( pot luck ) and
even Silverstone ( 1 29s will have to do , thank heavens I don't need to go
back there again - utterley lacking in any kind of enjoyment except t2 -
GPLEA should do something with that circuit to make it "flow" like their
Snett67 update did , some braking markers would be nice , anyway I digress )

My question to the fine folk of r.a.s. is this

Which of the Papyrus times did the group find hardest to match ?

I found the Monza time relatively easy to beat
The Monaco time pretty tough

Look forward to hearing your experiences

I found Spa, Zandy, Monaco and the Ring hard, haven't managed to beat Papy
at any of these yet. Silverstone, Watkins Glen and Monza were the easier
ones.

I''ve not driven F1 for a month or so now - been concentrating on the Vroc
F2 races. Quite looking forward to getting an F2 GPLRank and then going back
to F1 to see how much difference it makes (if any) :0)

having written all this there's a fat chance of it posting ! You'll have to
imagine all the witty and topical interjections I've offered over the past
year or so. I live in a
house full of GPL nuts ( Mr Ace Modes The Destroyer & Miss Lucinda Wong The
Humiliator ) and non of us gets a consistent news service.

I've still have three to beat. At Kyalami I'm +0.64, Spa +0.47, and
Zandy I'm 0.000

I've always been puzzled that so many people dislike Silverstone. I'm not
desperately fast there, but I find it very enjoyable to drive on,
especially online.

Monaco, on the other hand... I still struggle to get under 1:30 no matter
what I try, and I hate every moment on that s*dding track. It's a parade
circuit, not a racetrack!

For whatever it's worth, I'm with you. I could just lap Silverstone by
myself for hours. It's almost. . . well, meditative.

Being an (eternal?) newbie, there are still many tracks I haven't even
logged a time on (I'll save my blushes for the below times), so here are my
current, sad attempts:

                     Papy        Me
Monaco        1:29.33    1:35.74 (Eagle) - It's the fear of the tunnel and
trying too hard, I think
Monza           1:30.20    1:29.14 (Eagle) - Still searching for that
elusive 1:28
The 'Ring       8:21.93    9:50.64 (Ferrari) - My first none shift-r lap;
woo hoo!

Silverstone      1:30.91    1:33.76 (Eagle) - I think I need to practice my
trailbraking...
Spa                3:20.34    4:45.06 (Eagle) - Er, I think I need to just
practice
Glen               1:06.91    1:09.90 (Ferrari) - I'll get my coat now,
shall I?

As you can see, I spend far too much time at Monza.  A common newbie error?

Me: 3
Papyrus: 8
<g>
The only times I've beaten are Monza, Watkins, and Silverstone.  The others?
Not even CLOSE.  Mexico is the only other track where I'm within a *second*.
Maybe I'll beat them by the time WSC comes out... :)

You might be better avoiding the eagle for the moment as it's a big old
bird that a bit unwieldy, especially at a tight track like monaco. Stick
with the ferrari.
I've knocked 8secs off my rank this weekend by using the ferrari setups
from these track guides
http://www.gmmhost.co.uk/gmmhost/legendscentral/LOR/trackguides/gpl/i...
They're excellent and are, what I call, 'normal' setups rather than
freaky rear wheel steer jobs like the world record holders tend to drive.

Well who'd want to spend a lot of time at Rouen? Where, if its any
consolation to you, you have beaten someone - me! (2:10.06 Eagle).
In fact, you're also faster than me at Monaco, Monza, Silverstone and
Glen.
The circuit I like best is Spa (3:34 Eagle) but finding another 14
seconds there is quite out of the question, I've settled for just
enjoying myself!

(PS: If you submit your time to GPL Rank anyway, you'll find that you
are always faster than someone somewhere - that's always some
encouragement).

I hope you are kidding... Rouen is a quite glorious circuit, probably my

Well, actually you're the first person I know off who dislikes Rouen..
it's a ***y great track, spend some more time on it. When you get
near the 2:00 zone, you'll love it more and more..

I agree. Silverstone, particularly Abbey Curve, was where I learnt the
benefits of slow in, fast out that I'd seen everyone talking about. It's
also my biggest margin under the bogey time (1.6S), if I ever get Chapel
really sorted that should increase. My favourite track is still Spa though.

The Nurburgring has to be the most difficult, surely?

Score:
Me 5    (WG, Silverstone, Monza, Spa, 'Ring)
Papy 5  (Monaco, Zandvoort, Mexico, Mosport; all +1. Kyalami +0.25)
Even 1  (Rouen)
