Go for it, man!!!
Also, shouldn't use the lack of detail as an excuse. I've probably been
driving with just as little, if not less, detail as yourself and am now
down to 1:57.89 in under a month with a wheel. You've just got to be a
little more creative when choosing where/when to brake.
That braking for the hairpin can be a bit dicey if you try to squeeze
every last tenth out of it, but that shouldn't be necessary in order to
go under 2 mins. Normally as soon as I'm about to touch the darker
driving line I brake hard and change down 2 gears to 2nd. At the same
time I try to make sure that I'm getting near the inside and not too
wide (if you let the car run wide I find that there's a strong
possibility of oversteer as I try to turn away from the outside of the
bend), then I too coast a little around the corner until I've
straightened out and then brake and change down to first. If you brake
too early then try and estimate a little later. You aint' gonna get it
right everytime and may find yourself overshooting on the odd occasion,
but when trying to improve your pb it's worth making a few mistakes for
the sake of a decent lap, surely. :)
Now, get out there and have fun, and stopping putting Rouen down, it's a
great track. ;-)
PS: I bet you're careful in that first corner after the start/finish
line - the 4th gear right-hander. If you're brave you should be able to
brake hard as soon as you see the darker line and then turn in quite
sharply towards the apex, almost as if you want to run up the curb.
However, if you've carried enough speed you won't and will absolutely
fly around this bend, modulating the throttle as you go, you don't want
to get too carried away and find yourself drifting too wide on the exit
now. It takes some nerve initially but, once you've been successful a
few times you'll get more confident, I'm sure.
PPS: this post is just another excuse to post my new GPLrank wheel time
in my sig. :)
