Wiring for MS FF ?

by Olav K. Malm » Thu, 03 Aug 2000 04:00:00

Of course it had to happen in the worst possible moment. I've had only
played GP3 for about two hours, and then I went to the cinema. After I
came home and fired on GP3 again, the brake pedal didn't work. With
some troubleshooting I found out that the cable from the pedals is
partly internally broke right before it goes into that mini-din plug
that goes into the main unit. Which mean, the wheel is useless.

It's no use to take it back where I bought it 1.5 years ago, since
they claim the guarantee is only 1 year, and even if I pay them to fix
it, it will take two months for sure, only to find out I need a new
set of pedals.

Bad things never happen alone. Button 1 and 2 only works when the
wheel is turned to the left. Great, something internal is wrong too.

Anyone familiar with MSFF hardware plundering. The plug from the
pedals is probably pretty easy, but have anyone figured out the
wiring, where to solder the at least 4 wires ?

Any feedback on this issue is welcome.

btw : Is it possible to use the MSFF pedals with the LWFF wheel ?
Just if I have to buy a new wheel.

I sympathise Olav, I returned my MSFF (just before the 12 months was up...)
and went "Cold Turkey" for a month before they said they couldn't repair it
and gave me a credit note. I bought an LWFF and yes, you can use the MSFF
pedals (they didn't want them back). I just disconnected the wires from the
LWFF pots and attached them to the same place on the MSFF ones.

Now I think I've got the best of both worlds - not completely convinced
about the LWFF wheel yet (2 weeks) - it's quieter and quicker/easier to
opposite lock, no fps hit; but the quality doesn't seem as high and there's
too much slack in the steering. The deskclamp isn't as easy to use and the
wheel is angled higher than the MSFF. I believe it has "standard" pots
unlike the MSFF's digital ones so they're liable to wear out.
