Jason,
GP2 is not so good at modem, its always slower than normal no matter what you
do. If you follow these suggestions you should get it working well enough for
some fun together.
Use the same init string as Doom. (ie no compression, no error checking)
Lock your connect speed at 19200, set the port at 19200.
Start GP2 with the Use16550 parameter
Decide on a framerate and graphics setting that will keep the slowest computer
under 50% processor occupancy when *not* linked and then use that setting
on both. (lower framerate is better than high framerate with no graphics)
Have the faster computer call the slower one. (I think? try both to see which is
best)
Be kind to the other driver and dont sit in the pits, watch him drive or view
from a computers***pit view. Avoid external views while the other driver
is lapping.
Its been a while since I did link play, but I'm pretty sure thats what we worked
out as the best overall.
Regards,
David.
Hi....
Turn OFF all the graphics that you can bear to be without, and set as LOW
a framerate as possible (on BOTH machines), There is NO way around this,
gp2 is processor hungry, so turning down all the details and framerates
helps to speed things up.
Use the "gp2 use16550" command to start gp2, (gp2 will only use the
features of an 8225 uart chip by default, so you must force it to use the
16550 uart with this command).
Set the baud rates to at least 19200, (make sure both pc's have the same
baud rate set).
Use an init string that turns OFF error checking and compression, (the
actual string will depend on the modems used?)
Use a *clean* copy of gp2, eg:- no patches/utilities/editors, etc.
Read the gp2 manual and technical supplement on linking pc's, and your
modem manuals.
Have fun....... d:~))
