Voodoo card not being recognized by GPL...

by Eldre » Wed, 25 Jul 2001 13:01:25

I have a Canopus 3D card in one of my servers.  GPL doesn't keep the 3DFX
setting under Options.  I can set it to 3DFX, it says the changes won't take
effect until you restart.  I exit and restart, and the video option goes back
to "none".  IIRC, this system worked fine before a re-format, so I think I just
missed a setting somewhere.  I've tried the following:
Re-install the video card driver for the Canopus
Delete the display setting in the app.ini file
Delete the entire app.ini file
Re-copy the rast3dfx.dll file that the app.ini looks for
Rename the GPL directory and do a fresh install
Delete the Canopus card in the device manager and re-install
Delete both the Canopus card AND the built-in video card in Device Manager and
re-install.

No joy.  What did I miss?  Other system specs:  Dell 500mhz system, Intel 810e
graphics card, 256 MB ram, win98se.

put the version 2.53 drivers in the gpl folder.  (I think that is the
fix.)  Good luck finding drivers that old...try Eagle Woman's site...

Also try setting the app.ini to read/only. I had to do that to a
computer that was a GPL server once.

Eldred , I had the same problem as you. I'm using a Voodoo 3 2000 which was
working fine under 3DFX . However , a while back I had a system crash and
experienced the same symptoms as you . IIRC I tried a different driver and
checked the versions of every voodoo related program/file in my Windows
folder but without luck . I also deleted and re-installed GPL .

My solution has been to use the D3D patch which works fine with my Duron 800
system to back it up .

Oops, mke that 2.56, sorry.

Dave Henrie heeft geschreven in bericht ...

The old Glide2.53 driver can still be found here.
http://www.computerchannel.de/treiber/kategorien.phtml?kat=635

Just unzip in temp folder, than drag
the file glide2x.dll to your gpl folder
the rest can be deleted.

Good luck

Maybe it's set to read-only already and the changes aren't being
saved?

Have you tried editing the app.ini to specify 3dfx? At least then you
know it's attempting to initialise Glide.

I did a clean re-install, remember?<g>  It shows the rast3dfx.dll in the
app.ini after running the first time.  When I go back to GPL, the 3DFX option
has changed back to "none".  I haven't tried setting app.ini to read-only
yet...  It'll probably CRASH... :)

Aha, tis but a shame. What about other games? d3d maybe?

I think you're right if you set it to read only, it'd be crash time...

Does that still allow you to run the tracks that need a 3D card?
