CPR, PATCH & 3DFX

by WNAZ » Tue, 20 Jan 1998 04:00:00

I recently downloaded the patch for CPR and although many items are still
unresolved, I must admit the frame rate has improved noticeably.  To add a
little oopmh to my P-166 system, I recently upgraded my RAM from 32mb to 64mb
and also added an Intergraph Intense 3D-Voodoo 3DFX card.  (Which installed
rather easily and has made a tremendous impact to my graphics/framerates)

Now when I play CPR, things are prettier and faster, but there is a catch!!
Two things now seem to be conspiring to ruin my *** experience;

1.  incessant screen flickering (it is like a horizontal strip right across the
center of the screen).  Not big enough to completely alter your view, but quick
enough and small enough to be a huge nuisance.  In CPR, I am running "BETTER"
graphics with 3d hardware acceleration and most graphics on (with exception of
no steering wheel, no sky, no car shadows).  Clipping pane is around 21.

2.  HUGE PAUSES in gameplay.  I was recently driving Road America and the game
would freeze up for like 3-4 seconds at some points on the track.  It's that
beautiful feeling when the screen locks up but the sound continues!  You brace
yourself and try to figure out where the car will be the screen refreshes!

Any helpful insights/thoughts any one has on these 2 items would be
appreciated. Thanks.

P.S.  Even if these 2 items can be resolved, IMHO CPR is still complete shit.
The AI still sucks, the tracks are sufficiently suspicious in their accuracy
(did someone say "GPS"-give me a break) and the manual is a joke.
