Nascar2 & 3Dfx (not about the patch)

by Duncan Gardine » Sat, 03 Jan 1998 04:00:00

I have a problem with Nascar2.  Before I put my Diamond Monster 3Dfx card in
my system Nascar2 worked fine. Now it all comes up in funky colors!  I've
tried reloading it to no avail.  I would really prefer not to have to
disconnect my 3Dfx card every time I want to play, so I was hoping someone
out there might have some suggestions. Otherwise I'll just have to wait for
the patch.

Thanks,

Duncan

I've noticed a similar thing with a Diamond Stealth II S220 3D card.

Every time I try to run N2 in dos, the game will not even start.

However, if I run the rendition version in dos, it runs fine.

The curious thing is that after loading the rendition version in dos, and
exiting, if I then run the normal version, it loads fine.

Any ideas?

There might be conflicts with Univbe if you have that loaded. If you've
got the files UNIVBE.DRV and UVCONFIG.DAT in your NASCAR2 directory, try
deleting these. If this doesn't work (or if you don't already have these
files) try running UVCONFIG.EXE which will recreate the files.

Cheers,
Richard

Does your system support DMA busmastering?  There's a reason they named
the rendition version "renddma" afterall.

I have 3 different CPU's that I have been switching in my system.  I have a
Canopus Total 3D-128V and a Pure 3D.  With the Intel CPU and the Pure 3D
installed, My nascar will not run at all.  With a Cyrix or AMD it is fine.
Go figure.

The CPU's are all 233's, and MMX, K6 and M2.

FYI, I sure like my Cyrix!

On both my Intel P166 & P200MMX, 32mb SDRAM, Hercules Stingray 128/3D
Nascar2 runs fine, minus the univbe that came with the game. I run the
game in DOS whether single-player or online Kali & Kahn. No problems
noted to date and even the BGN add-on works fine.

Sure hope the upcoming 3DFX patch will run in DOS too. The Glide
drivers get it smooth for both Descent2 & Tomb Raider. If the patch is
a Win95 thing-only, I'll have to stay running in 640x480 gfx.
