For the last 3 months, every time I felt the desire to hit the Nascar
tracks I have thought to myself  " No, the 3dfx patch will be out tomorrow,
wait till then"  and go off and play something else. Well last night I
cranked it up for a night of 3Dfx enhanced racing. As for the 3dfx
acceleration, yeah its all right, nicer look and better frame rate, but what
really impressed me was Nascar 2. I cant believe ive been depriving myself
of it for so long. This Sim Rocks, with the exception of ICR 2, even after
nearly 18 months nothing even comes close. All I can say to you NROL people
is I HATE YOU ALL. I am so jealous, as the opportunity to race multiple
people in Australia is very limited. Its like practising everyday for the
big weekend race that never happens.

Also I now spend a fair amount of time looking at that GPL wallpaper.
(hehehe what can I say, Im a motor head.) Have a look at the first AVI demo,
there is one spot where the front car has taken the slide a little far and
has backed off in order to straighten up he then brings on the power on but
a little to quickly. It is at that point that you hear the engine rev and
the rear end gets very light. This is brilliant its the one thing that all
sims have been missing, lets face it even in a mid gear at low revs if you
plant the throttle of an INDY car it is going to let out a roar and spin you
end to end in a second. Another thing is the sliding the front car was
doing, this was not because he had to, like in the arcade games, this was
just because he could and as the rear car had far better track speed you can
see that any oversliding is going to slow you down considerably . I CANT
WAIT.

As unpopular here as this may be here, there is one "sim." already that
provides the feel you are looking for: CART:PR.  It requires a lot of
patience to set-up, and the AI is so horrible that you must drive alone on
the tracks to enjoy them, but the realistic handling and performance are
there.  Too bad it has a number of other fatal flaws that will not be
patched, according to the latest from MS.

In your statement you recommend CPR AND deliver the argument that kills
it.
I love hot lapping in F1RS, but without being able to race some cars it
would have been removed a long time ago.

Well fortunately there is TCP/IP which provides the most realistic AI found
anywhere :-)

Like you, I hadn't driven N2 for a while. I think recent frustrations with
F1rs and TOCA sapped my driving enthusiasm, and I was waiting for GPL to
relight the fuse. But I really had forgotten how I enjoy a bit of "racing
in circles". If nothing else, the 3dfx patch had given some of us a good
excuse to rediscover N2, which is no bad thing.

As for the quality of the graphics... well, it's better and faster than
software; looks like a typical glide port to me. It won't alter anyone's
world, I'm sure, but it tweaked mine quite nicely, and the only time I see
any slow down is in the replay section.

Please...

I can assure you that CPR is far and away from any feel I am looking
for in a sim, and even further away from anything I've experienced in
real life.

Cheers!
