non Americans are most likely more likely to pirate games because of the
later release dates of US games.  A lot of times games are released months
earlier in the US so non Americans are more likely to want it since we have
it.  Just my theory.

Being English I have a  legitimate version of gpl that requires a CD to run
so I use a no CD patch.
The new patch will replace gpl.exe and I guess the no CD patch will not work
with the new version.
Is it possible to get a copy of gpl.exe (US) so I can just use the US patch
when it is released?

Thanks

Craig

that you guys would not put up with this crap? (GPL is just one  of many
games that are protected this way.)

what? gpl has been out for quite some time, so the relevance is?

I'm not meaning to be annoying or anything, just don;t see why you bothered
saying that that's all, it's not like he is asking for the full game, the
EXE file is useless without everything else.

The point is that using the gpl patch will mean that I have to leave the CD
in the drive again.
I have the full game, I bought it on the day of release in the UK and I paid
more for it than in the US,  30 <> $48. So why should I put up with the
inconvenience?

I have to agree with you, I have the US copy (I live in the US), and there
is nothing better than playing GPL, and listening to your favorite CD at the
same time.

Not quite true actually... In fact most of the US games are released in
Europe in a matter of days after the US release (the big games at
least). The situation is actually much worse the other way round,
it often takes months for a European game to hit the market in
US. Makes sense: it's a lot easier to move from a bigger market (US)
to a smaller market (Europe) than vice versa.

Anyway, it wouldn't make any sense not to copy protect the US
version for that reason only, because that's the version that comes
out first, so that would be the version that would most likely be
pirated.

AFAIK, the CD copy protection is prohibited in US for some reason
or the other, so that's why it's not used there. It is allowed in other
areas (like Europe), so game companies like to implement it here,
just because they can :(

No, there are lots of other U.S. releases of U.S. games that have the CD
copy protection.
