F1C Track loading times...

Is there anything that can be done to reduce them? On some tracks I'm
waiting well over a minute.
Win XP, P4 2.2, 512Mb if it helps.
Thanks in advance,
Rick.

More RAM, faster hard drive, more video RAM.  512MB might seem like enough
but the textures for a full grid of cars are huge.  It's an issue with F1C.
It uses an uncompressed texture format that takes up lots & lots of space.
The upcoming GTR which is based on the F1C engine will use a DDS compressed
texture format which means faster loading times and lower memory
requirements.

Alternatively, just go and make a cup of tea, or take a leak. ;-)

For a full-field race I can do both of those and still be back in time for
first practice!     :-)

Are talking about the standard sim with the default cars or a mod?
THe more cars in the field, the longer the load times.  If you have an
older Hard drive, then loading times could be extended.  A good 7200 rpm
drive with 512 mb of memory should do well.
Remember, XP uses more resources than win9x.  So while 9x is quite
happy with 512mb, you might want to add more sysem ram to xp.

Which tracks?  I don't think my system takes that long, and it's much slower
than yours.

Dave,

BMW M3s, ETCC and F360 Challenge.

Hmm - I'm running a 40g Seagate 7200rpm drive with 512mb, so maybe there's
something else?

Worth bearnig in mind - thanks.
Regards
Rick.

Australia, Silverstone and Monza are the three I know best and consequently
the three I run most. They're _all_ slow! I should also have pointed out
that I'm running the BMW M3, F360 and ETCC mods rather than the original
game.

Regards
Rick.

I just timed an ETCC Australia track loading.  With the default 31
cars it took my system 63 seconds from cliking the load icon to
displaying the car in the garage.  If you have MORE cars in your ETCC
mod, each car will add to the load time.
When I was testng the LeMans 24 hr mod,  I gained about 12 seconds in
track loading time when I went from 256mb to 512mb.  Depending upon how
your Aussie track time compares to mine, you might add at least one more
stick of RAM to your system.

Oh well.  I haven't tried the M3 or F360, and I was never able to get the ETCC
to work.  What was the loading time you were talking about - the one to drive,
or the one to start the weekend?

The weekend start one, with the b/w to colour loading band across the top -
once I'm in the pits, the jump into the cars is pretty instantaneous.

Cheers - I just did the same with a 28 car field at Silverstone - 70 seconds
for me, so perhaps more ram is the way to go. I also remember reading about
converting the vehicle textures from 512k to 256k, but wouldn't have the
first idea how to go about that!

Yeah - that looks like it could be it.

Thanks again

Rick.
