N2 & SVD Modems?

by Mark Hann » Tue, 20 May 1997 04:00:00

Hi,

Has anyone managed to get one of the SVD (voice over data)
modems to work with NASCAR2 in a modem-modem setting?

A friend and I purchased identical Banksia modems yesterday
in order to use this feature and didn't manage to get things
working.

Using a normal init string and connecting at 9600 we got a
good latency and gameplay was great.

Trying to use the SVD init string AT&F%C0S95=0W2-SMS=2#VLS=6
led us to our first problem, N2 won't accept an init string
which is so long.  I then tried to store the settings in
one of the memories and then use an INIT string of ATZ0 to
fetch it back.

When connecting in this manner we got terrible latencies and
were unable to play the game (and the audio didn't work).

Anybody got any ideas?

Thanks, Mark

N2 WILL use INIT strings longer then that.  I am using a N2
and Cardinal Voicemodem combo now and it works great.

Edit the modem.cfg file and add your modem section and INIT
string there.  I moved the baud rate up to 38400, then turned on
the speaker phone upon connection.  After I dialed the number in
my phone book, I then edited the mdf file.  I think that's the extension.
It defaults to a max of 19200.  I changed that to 38400 and all works
well.

I can give you the exact INIT string tomorrow if you need it.
