It appears that there is no support for those ports. There is also no
2 IRQ support. Why is this . I hope it can be fixed in the patch.

They do support COM3 at least, because that's what I'm using with my modem.
I suspect that your BIOS isn't recognizing your serial port or modem. I
think there's a freeware program out there somewhere that will poke the
appropriate locations in memory to convince the BIOS and N2 that your modem
is alive.

I have two computers here at home that are null modemed together through
COM4.  I don't know about COM3, as I don't have any device configured on
that port.

Most computers / cards only come with 2 serial port connections, and they
are usually set by default to COMs 1 & 2.  It up to you to re-configure
them, if need be.  Is your modem internal, or external?  If it is internal,
what COM port is it set to, and is the unused external port set to the same
COM#?   This is possible, and as long as there is nothing on that external
port, you probably won't get any conflict.

Does MSD report that you have a COM3 and COM4 installed?

On my 5x86, I had an extra serial card laying around, so I configured it to
be COM1 and stuck my mouse on it.  I then reconfigured my new serial card
so the the 16550 serial ports were coms 2 & 4.  I plugged my external modem
into COM2 and the nul modem cable into COM4.  Since I never use the null
and the modem at the same time, no conflicts.  When I select the ports in
N2, my choices are COM1, COM2, & COM4.   Worked for me.   An on the
Pentium, I just reassigned the ports VIA the BIOS, and stuck in a internal
modem.  So the choices are the same there also ( COM1, COM2, & COM4 )

I belive that if the port is visable to DOS, then the setup program will
offer it as a choice, at least it does on mine.

My null modem cable runs on COM4.  COM3 is pretty much Taboo for me,
because my mouse is on COM1.
