Hi,
I need objective opinions on these two cards. I do quite a bit of ***
and also computer graphics works.
Send me your comments thru email.
Thanks.

Stay away from the Mystique. It should be no faster in 2D than the
Millennium, but it isn't much of a performer in 3D. It lacks bi-linear
filtering, which in my opinion is an absolute must have feature for a 3D
card. As an all around card the Millennium is a good performer, but you
might want to take a look at the new Rendition Verite based cards (Creative
Labs 3D Blaster PCI, Intergraph's Reactor3D, etc...). They are reportably
as fast or faster than the Millennium in VESA 2.0 SVGA modes and are pretty
good performers in 3D (though not as good as the add-on 3D only Voodoo
cards).

I have a Matrox Millenium w/ 4M WRAM. The Mystique uses a slightly
different chipset, and cheaper memory (SGRAM.) It's limited to 4M (the
Millenium can go to 8M) and has a lower maximum resolution. The Millenium
normally has a 220MHz DAC, whereas the Mystique's is 158MHz. This is the
cause of the lower max resolutions and/or refresh rates. (The DAC [Digital
to Analog Converter] converts the digital data in memory to an analog
signal for the monitor. The faster the DAC, the higher resolution/refresh
rates you can have.)
I saw one of Matrox's own ads, which helped explain a few of the
differences. The little benchmark graphs showed the Mystique just slightly
slower than the Millenium.
The Mystique's 3D is supposedly a little more full-featured than the
Millenium. The only DirectDraw 3D game I have (Monster Truck Madness)
complains that my Millenium doesn't have a few necessary 3D components.
Despite that, it's still quite fast on my P133.
Both cards use the same video drivers.
