Indycar2 SVGA and Matrox Millenium Question!!!

by Neville Walke » Sun, 21 Jul 1996 04:00:00

I recently purchased a Matrox video card (used) without all the
necessary drivers. I downloaded the Win95 drivers from the Matrox web
site, but my question relates to DOS.

When I try to install the UNIVBE driver in ICR2 the game detects a Oak
Tech VGA card w 256k ram, is this correct or do I need some sort of DOS
VESA driver for the Matrox?

Any info will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
                   Nev.

I agree.  I was running SDD 5.2 and saw *minor* improvements in ICR2, but
significant improvements in DN3d.  However, after upgrading the BIOS on
my Millennium, I acheived the same as with running SDD 5.2.  I promptly
removed the SDD 5.2 from my system.  My BIOS is 2.0 now.

Also, I found my Millennium's performance in Win95 was DEGRADED slightly
while running SDD 5.2.

First off: The Matrox Millenium usually lists as an Oak Card and should be changed
to the Millenium Powerdesk. (this can be done in Control Panel's Display Icon.)
NOTE: You must first install the Millenium Powerdesk (It's available from Matrox's Website).
You may also wish to download a)DirectX driver,b)SoftComp Video Driver from their site.
Second:    The Univbe driver is not needed as the Millenium will supply it's own vesa driver
           automatically.
Third:     If your monitor isn't automatically setup by windows95 or you experience display anomolies you
may wish to use Matrox's Monitor Program to setup your Monitor properly.(not always necessary)
Fourth:    Matrox's Installation File as with most major O.E.M's should be your first avenue for
information as it will usually contain the information you need.
That being said: If you have further dificulties setting up your Millenium drop me an E-Mail as I don't

Don't bother even with 5.2. I got no noticable improvement with SDD 5.2
