Anybody have the Matrox Millenium?

Yeah, I had the Matrox Millenium for about 6 hours before I sent it back for a refund. The
version of NASCAR to which you refer is *not* optimised for the Matrox - true, it won't run
without the Matrox card, but it gave me frame rates no better than my existing ET4000. I have
also read in computer magazines that the 'special' version of NASCAR is not so special - it is
just an ordinary bundle copy that won't run without the Matrox. The reason I sent it back,
though, was because unless you have a very s***y monitor (15" or larger), it's back to the days
of thick black borders around your picture. The set up utility that came with it wasn't memory
resident, so there was no way of setting the refresh rates for my monitor (a ViewSonic 6E 14").
I was left with a 12" picture on a 14" screen in any DOS games. The company I purchased it from
very kindly refunded my money after I threatened legal action, so now my P133 is back in harmony
with my ET4000. The Matrox is a very good card, if you have the ancilliary hardware to support
it - I didn't, and nearly got my fingers burnt.

Just curious if anyone else has this miracle video card. It comes free with a
CD version of Nascar-papyrus that is optimized to run ONLY with this video
card. I find that it's far better than a comparably priced card by Number9 that
a friend of mine with an identical set-up(Pentium100-16meg) uses. I haven't
seen any traffic or mention of it on this group and am wondering whether it's
being sold widely.

> Hi Rob,

Yup..I've got a MGA Millenium...and I'm very happy with it...It screams in both
DOS and Windoze95.  I don't have anything to compare it to, because I bought it
at the same time I upgraded to a P133.  I know it's faster than the Cirrus-equipped
Compaq 133's we have at the office.

I'm running ICR2 SVGA with all options on except grass, all opponents showing
(31 ahead), 3 behind....no problems whatsoever with framerate on my rig.  Likewise
with Need for Speed.  I haven't come across a game yet (aside from Nascar) that I can't
turn all options on.

So I guess you'd call me a "Happy" Millenium owner.

What a waste, a Pentium 133MHZ running on a 14" monitor and a cheap Videocard!!!!

Somehow I doubt that you need any threat for the store to give you refund, they are selling an many Millenium as
they can get in.

In Harmony, running at speed of a very fast 486 :-)

If you think the Matrox is a very good value for money video card, I'm
not surprised you make ridiculous statements like that. The Matrox is a
vastly overpriced stop-gap video card that offers little if any
improvement over cards many hundreds of dollars cheaper.

You bought one? Ah ha ha ha....etc.

Cheers!

The Matrox Millenium with two Meg of WRAM sells for $290 - $320 dollars.

Which cards are many hundreds of dollars cheaper????
