Viper Racing Problem

Viper Racing Problem

by Reggie Brook » Thu, 06 Jan 2000 04:00:00

I recently installed a new hard drive and had to re-install Viper
Racing. A video problem is occurring now that did not show up in the
original install.

WWhen I go to the Starting Grid screen, the only car that shows on the
screen is in starting position #1. All the names are there, but the
pictures of the different colored cars are missing except for slot #1.
This problem exists both in Quick Race and Career races. I have
installed the 1.1 patch and the 1.11 patch (which provides 1024x768
support for Voodoo 3), but the problem was there before and after each
patch was installed. I had both patches on my original install, when
everything was working right.

I have a 3DFX Voodoo 3 3000 video card. What has changed since the first
install is as follows:

1.  New hard drive (most likely has nothing to do with the problem)

2.  Fresh install of Windows 98 Second Edition (originally I had Win98SE
installed over a previous install of Win95 on the old hard drive)

3.  FAT32 File System (was not installed on the old hard drive)

4.  The latest Voodoo 3 3000 drivers which required and installed
DirectX 7.0 (originally had older drivers with DirectX 6.1 installed)

5.  DirectX 7.0a (which I installed hoping to correct some controller
problems that showed up with 7.0)

Anybody got any ideas how to fix this problem? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,

Reggie Brooks

I noticed this problem right after I installed DirectX7.0 so I would assume
that it is the culprit. I don't know if there is a fix yet though

No help, but same thing here.  Same setup too.

Viper Racing Problem

Same problem. What I changed before starting Viper after a long time was a
new CPU, new drivers for my TNT-card and... Directx7+7a, so this really
seems to be the one...
BTW, I still use Win95, so upgrading to 98 should not be the prob.
Luckily this is a minor (though ugly) problem and gameplay is not affected.
