Viper racing replays problem

by Paul Jone » Wed, 02 Dec 1998 04:00:00

When I run Viper Racing (full version) in 1024x768, I can't get the
mouse to move over to the right hand buttons in replays - it's limited
to a square that's approximately 640x480 to the top left of the screen -
it means I can't save races, hide the control panel etc. Also the replay
doesn't seem to remember more than the last 3 or 4 laps of a race. I
have dual 12Mb Voodoo2 in SLI and 128Mb RAM. Anyone any ideas of how to
get round these problems?
Thanks in advance,
Paul

I have the same problem. The mouse won't go over to the side where the save
replay buttons are. I also have a 12meg VoodooII SLI setup, but only 64 meg
SDRAM .Let me konw if you figure this one out.

I've tried resetting my desktop to other resolutions with no effect.

    Good ones, Paul.

The replay mouse-bounds problem is definitely a bug in Viper Racing.  We
are putting together a patch to correct this and other issues, notably
mirror fov/size and modem play.

The small-replay-buffer problem was an oversight on our part as well.
The replay buffer consumes a fixed 2MB, regardless of the amount of memory
available.  This is a sufficient replay buffer for hot-lapping, but with 8
cars it is definitely too short.

I'll gladly accept more suggestions for "must-have" patch features at

conservative.  I can't make any guarantees.

Hi Dave,
It's very nice to have a developer answer questions on this forum, thank you.
Also thanks for a truly wonderful game. My only other issue is to be able to
save setups by file name so that it does not overwrite the previous save. Same
goes for images and maybe replays though I've never managed to save one due to
the mouse bounds problem. To have so few problems with a sim is unusual - I
popped the disk in and away it went. No need to fool around with any windows
settings, no crashes, no tinkering behind the scenes - excellent! And it's the
best introduction to car setups I could imagine - even a dunderhead like me is
beginning to get the hang of them. I could go on singing the praises of VR for
many paragraphs.
You know Viper Racing woud sell well in UK and Europe as well - I have a
reciprocal (however you spell that!) arrangement with a guy in the US whereby I
send him European sims and he sends me American ones. Shame we have to do this -
it makes them pricey. Why not release worldwide at the same time?
I'd love to see more tracks! Especially more road-type circuits (maybe real
ones) - could you release these as a paid-for patch? I would buy it.
You guys should make a full GT simulation with Mercs, Jags, Porsches and the
rest. Viper has proved that you are more than capable of doing an excellent job.

Thanks again,
Paul

Yeh i agree with the add on for tracks, This VIper racing could be a very good
engine
for all kinds of race games weither go carts,Dirt Track,Nascar, formula 1 type racing
games. The sliding and handling are superb and precise. Good luck in the future on
this product.

I find that _very_ annoying, especially since I have 128MB of RAM, and
10GB of drive space available.
