Anyone using one for these games? What is your system specs and what kind of
performance are you getting at the high resolutions?

Here's my specs:
Tbird 1.33
Epox 8KTA3 mb
256mb pc133 ram (micron)
SB Live X-gamer sound card
WinXP Home edition

I have a GF2MX 32mb card now but want to run N4 in 32bit at the highest res.

yer dreaming I think.  almost all advice sites recomend staying in 16bit
color.  Going to 32bit and highest resolutions will tax your 1.33 Tbird and
the vidcard.  I'm not sure if the Radeon handles 32bit any better than a
Geforce3.
the only vidcard that does 32bit without a slowdown is the Kyro and that
has other issues.

Yea, but that's on the track with no other cars around, right? I have an
8500 too and see just over 90fps at Daytona with just me on the track, but
as soon as I race with a full field it's quite a bit less than that.

I run 1024*768 at 32 bit with a Radeon 7500 with most items on (not all) and
get 40-90 when racing online, 12 ahead, 3 behind.
Running a 1.33 Tbird with 768MB ram.

Also 32 bit is selectable in OpenGL as that is what I run.

If you get the radeon your nuts...  there are hundreds of posts with
problems with 2 things now days, Radeons & Soundblasters.  SO THINK!  You
want things to run at or above most performance levels, but you are going to
buy the cheapy alternative???  yeah right Im sure the Yugo would keep up
with the Honda CRX... SURE... If you drove them off a cliff at the same,
time I bet there would be little performance difference in the 2 at least
till they hit the water....

All cards have problems, period.  ATI is no worse than others they just are
slower on drivers.

Funny, I read lots of posts from GeForce owners having problems with F1
2001.

Er, oops I guess I initiated the flame-backs (sorry) but one thing stands
out Steve...  HE SAID NASCAR4 & GPL, not F1.
if he had said F1, I would have had to keep my comments to myself (aka mouth
shut), as I obviously wouldn't know what the hell I was talking about.  I
haven't seen whatever F1 is.

Now then, I just want to know, am I one of the few who actually reads the
questions??  HMMMM!?  <G>.

Do you own a radeon 8500? Do you run it with these games? From reading
threads on other message boards (since posting here) I have found that a
majority of radeon 8500 owners have very few problems and get almost equal
performance to Ti500 cards (a couble FPS is nothing). I was only looking to
find anyone else in this newsgroup that owns one and what kind of
performance they get at the highest resolutions so I have an idea of what to
expect when I recieve my card. Responses like yours are just worthless and
don't answer anything. If you've never owned a radeon then I don't see how
you can even base any kind of a response at all on what you seem to perceive
from reading a couple posts somewhere.

Ignore stingre, he's just a trolling ***.

I have an 8500 and am running a TBird 1ghz with 768mb RAM on Win2K with
an older SB Live.  I am *not* running the latest drivers (6011 for
Win2k) yet, and am in fact two versions behind as i write this.

I'm running N4 at 1600x1200x32 but with a few things turned down/off.
If you want details, I'll write them down for you later today.

GPL is jerky at times, and I don't know why.  I've stopped running the
updated car files and 3d wheels, but I still have the problem.  The
experiemental OpenGL module for GPL doesn't work at all for me.  I seem
to remember seeing other people saying they're doing fine with this
hardware combo in GPL.

Yea, and that's the *big* problem with ATI. They said with the release of
the R8500 they would be releasing drivers on a bi-weekly basis, well I
haven't seen new drivers for the R8500 for almost two months now. I can't
play FS2002 with the ATI drivers, I have to use 3rd party hacked drivers
(Omega). The R8500 is superior hardware running on inferior drivers. If ATI
doesn't get out decent drivers soon this will be the first and *last* ATI
card I ever buy.

Hello,

I changed from a V5 5500 to the ATi Radeon 8500 retail when the 8500
first came back, so I have had quite a bit of *** time on it.  From
what I have seen, there has been little performance difference between
16 bit and 32 bit colour.  Relative to many other cards I have used,
the 8500 actully seems to suffer less when going to 32 bit colour.

I have not had any problems with N4 and my setup.  The one game I have
had some problems with is Ubi Soft's F1 Racing Championship.
Abit KT7-R
768 Megs PC133
AMD TBird 1 GHz
ATi 8500 Retail
SB Audigy
Win 98SE/XP dual boot
2 x IBM 75 GXP 46 Gig in RAID 0

I run at 1024x768; 2X FSAA; high quality everything; all views maxed
and I get anywhere from 26 fps to 45 fps.

I'm running my 8500 with a 1.2 Tbird and 512 Meg Ram.  As far as speed is
concerned this thing flys but the drivers are terrible (random crashing,
imcompatability with some games).  I'm afraid that if I don't see some new
drivers (that work) soon, this card will go back. Pity really.

Word from the guy who runs Rage3d (in the Beyond3d forum) is to expect new
drivers in the next week or two.

Yea, let's hope they are good too. Now with Hercules onboard, and a few
other 3rd party hardware vendors, I would hope that ATI realizes they
absolutely must get on the ball when it comes to good solid drivers. This
card will truly rock with good drivers.
