Did you install new***pits with a preset redline? Otherwise, the
'redline' is just the telltale, or a needle showing how high the engine has
revved. It will go to the highest point and stay there until either you rev
it higher or hit shift-T and reset it. So your redline may be way too high.
Yes you should!!! I personally cannot drive the car if I don't let off;
since the revs spike a little more, it breaks the rear tires loose, and
everyone knows how vital grip is in GPL...there was a discussion on this
(shifting) a while ago...

You're over reving the engine. Pure and simple. Lift a little while
shifting. I personally lift more than half way.
I use to drive a Lotus,and I just blew too many damn engines no matter
how careful I was. Now I drive a Brabham,and a single engine will last
almost a full night of racing on GSB/VROC :))
