What am I doing wrong.  Everytime a play GPL, I seem to blow my engine.  I
switch gears about two notches from the red line but I still blow engines.
Should I be letting off on the gas when I switch?

Try driving your real car without lifting the gas off. I bet it don't make
it to the next service <G>

...only if you don't want to blow engines. :-)

Did you install new***pits with a preset redline?  Otherwise, the
'redline' is just the telltale, or a needle showing how high the engine has
revved.  It will go to the highest point and stay there until either you rev
it higher or hit shift-T and reset it.  So your redline may be way too high.

Yes you should!!!   I personally cannot drive the car if I don't let off;
since the revs spike a little more, it breaks the rear tires loose, and
everyone knows how vital grip is in GPL...there was a discussion on this
(shifting) a while ago...

Absolutely...but also remember
to not red line the tach on your
downshifts.

Thomas,

You're over reving the engine. Pure and simple. Lift a little while
shifting. I personally lift more than half way.

I use to drive a Lotus, and I just blew too many damn engines no matter
how careful I was. Now I drive a Brabham, and a single engine will last
almost a full night of racing on GSB/VROC :))
