Hooking up either the MS SW FF or TM Pro Digital

by pw » Thu, 15 Mar 2001 02:46:02

Hi,

I want to get a wheel for N4!  I don't know which one to get.  I
believe the Thrustmaster's are USB and the MS ones are not.

I presently have all CH stuff (stick, throttle, and pedals) hooked up
to my system (via a game card, as my MX300 sound card doesn't have the
ampage).  I play flight-sims more than I do driving sims (also run
NFS: Porsche).

Any ideas what I would have to unplug or get either wheel to work with
my system (and which is better)?

Thanks,

-pw

Whichever one you go for, you don't have to unplug a thing. There will be no
resource conflicts. For N4 you probably even won't have to change a thing
(it detects and allows you to calibrate all controllers connected to your
system). For NFS:PU you'll probably have to move the wheel to ID1 on the
Advanced page of the Game Controllers applet.

Cheers,

Jan.

What do I plug it into?  I don't think the MS FF is USB.

There are two versions of the MSFF wheel, one is gameport, the other USB. I
haven't seen a gameport version for sale for a few months now though.

scribbled:

Sam's Club stores (United Stats) are currently carrying them, at a
clearance price of around $55. Couple that with a $30 mail-in rebate
from Microsoft and you've got one heck of a price on a wheel, provided
you don't mind it being the older version.

Unfortunately for me, I'm not a member and they apparently don't
accept Walmart Gift Cards (which say they're valid at Walmart and
Sam's) if you're not a member (wtf!).

Really wanted one, too. :(

MS FF is USB nowadays... I have no opinion on either wheel as I've never
used 'm.
