Can someone tell me how to pit in NASCAR?  When I pull into the pit and stop the
car, nothing happens....

Make sure that you are in your pit and try hitting the brake button again.

Or you can run races that are short enough not to require a pit stop. ;)

You may want to try recalibrating your joystick or whatever device you
are using for your brakes and gas pedal.  It sounds as if you may not be
bringing your car to a complete STOP so no pit work.  Also make sure you
are not slightly to far forward or outside your pit area.  Try backing
up and see if they will work on your car.

Just a couple of guesses.

Make sure you are stopping in the right place.  Once you get it stopped
in the right place, the red timer will start in the upper right corner of
the screen.  I did the same thing until I got used to stopping in the
right place.

It seems to me that you have to be able to see the crewman holding the
pit sign in the left side of the windshield to get things going.  If you
drive past him, nothing.  If you don't get close enough, nothing.  If you
can't find your pit at all, mine has always been the first stall.  You can
see the crew standing behind the wall waiting on you.  If there are front
and back pits, I have always been on the front (and not because of my
qualifying abilities!)

Oh, if you are talking about the demo, your out of luck.  The crew doesn't
make the trip to the track.  I believe they are still in the shop working on
the race setup.  8>

Speaking of the pit situation on NASCAR, my manual says that the pits
are determined randomly, but I have had the same pit every time I
have playe, the first one.  Was this just another thing they forgot
to put in the game?

Well, you're the lucky one.  I get the last pit every time.  I tried
qualifying, but never got good enough at that to advance.

Well there is certainly a an option which was planned (pit location),
but apparently was to difficult to maintain software wise.  Too, bad it
would've been fun -- and even more hair-raising than pit stops are now.
Don't expect it to be fixed.

However what Announcer option are you complaining about.  The only
announcer there is Ned at the very beginning.  I also have fairly decent
Stereo with my PAS+, (of course it is a little scratchy -- but I
remember before NASCAR came out someone had posted hoping they would
include the full range of sounds heard in the***pit like the ***
flying up and hitting the undercarriage, so I just pretend that's what
all of that static is -- oh, yeh and the static on my radio caused by
the altnernator).  Either enjoy it or take it back for a refund or give
it to a friend (or enemy).

I'm a bit curious, here, too.  I have a genuine SB16 and all the
sounds on SB16 Stereo are fine, *except* for the infamous static.
This static appears to get worse on SB16 Mono and SB8 Stereo, but
improves once again on SB8 Mono.  Since the last option is far less
CPU intensive and sounds nearly the same, I now use it all the
time.

Any other observations on this issue?

Regards,
John

Interesting.. I have never had this problem with static on mine on any
setting.  Not like I ever use sb16 stereo anymore.. I don't even use
digitzed sounds. Just takes up way too much processor time.

You have no idea what you're missing. NASCAR *IS* the best racing simulation
ever written. Bar none.

Well, I learned my lesson from ICR:
Buying a program from Papyrus isn't a problem at all -
I'm sure they'll produce a patch quite quickly.

That's a lot better compared to MicroPr*se, where I'm still waiting
for patches for Darkl*nds, Master of Or*on... (and I guess, I'll wait
forever :-(

   Herbert

PS: Better to buy a BETA version, and get patches, than
buying programs with errors that are never corrected...

Here's an interesting pit problem:
While in the lead at Michigan (one that I fought for during the previous
58 laps!), the yellow flag drops (one J. Gordon loses it in 2).
As the pits open, I'm right behind the pace car, so I drop into the
pits (yep, the 1st pit, of course).  As I'm jacked up for right side ***,
my car is ***ly shoved into the pit wall and thrown 2 pit spaces down.
Now I am shown with wheel damage, and in someone else's pit spot (although
my pit crew continue working).  Curious (as you might imagine), I check
the replay to see what happened.  Elliot apparently tried to enter the
pits late ( he was high upon exiting 4 and above another car).  He flew
down towards the pit, crossing the short grass strip that seperates the
pit lane from the track, prior to the outer pit wall.  This action sets
his car loose, and his correction sends his speeding car directly into
my front quarter panel.  BOOM!  Talk about lousy luck.  1:25 in the pits
total for me -- thoughts of top 10 finish over (all this in a Champ Season).
I saved the replay -- I'll try and upload to the Papyrus BBS for anyone
interested.

Feature?  Another negative of the first pit spot?
