Low grip, 90% off camber corners, lots of dips and rises... I've been
learning this track that last couple of days and only now am I able to
keep the car on the road! :o)

Is it really this much harder than the other tracks, or have I been
playing RS2 too much recently...? :))

Rob,

It "really" is that much harder. If you ever get the chance to drive around
it in real life, take the opportunity. Every driver I've ever talked to that
has raced at Mosport says the same thing "If you can win at Mosport, you can
win anywhere". Check out www.mosport.com for more details on recent
improvements to the track.

It's definitely the hardest for me. Very slippery and the corners seem
to rush up, or should I say down.

its not :-)

just practice the ring abit and you will feel comfortable here as well.

the ring ;-)

One of my favorites. I like Steve Smiths description of  Mosport - "Driving
there is more like dogfighting in a WW1biplane than racing....."

Actually, in my GPL history this was the first track that I was
competitive on. My first online victory happened there. I guess it suits
my style of driving, as this is the only track apart from maybe
Zandvoort I can really be on the limit all the way through its corners,
not fighting too much over- or understeer.

The only rule of thumb I had to learn was that 90% of what feels like
good entry speed for almost any corner is just about too much ;).

It's really tricky - off-camber, roller-coaster, narrow, and those kerbs
are *extremely* unforgiving.

Good fun though:-) I especially like that bit where there's a crest in
the track just where you have to brake for a fast 3rd/4th gear right
hander!

Or in my case: there's a crest in the track just where you have to
plunge off into a ginormous gravel trap swearing continually for the
eternity it takes your car to cross it and hit the barrier.

Scary crest, I agree... shall I drop gently to 4th before it or do I keep
my foot down till I'm *just* over the top and risk visiting Mr Gravel and
Mrs Firmslapwithawarmbarrier. Usually I back off, and it's the other ***
Mosport rise -- drop down left hander, turn 2 -- that catches me pushing
too hard, mainly because it's *so* satisfying when you get it right and
come out thrashing it in 4th.

Other fearful crests...
The 1st and still one of the scariest...Watkins Glen.
The final fast left hander at the Ring. You've invested 8+ mins in the
lap, do you go for gold or settle for silver?

Hi Rob!

It is really hard, not only in GPL, but also in real racing...
I drove/raced on the track on a few occasions.

On one occasion, I was there with a friend competing in the "Player's GM
Series"(we also raced together in F125 & Endurance series).
I was dooing his sponsorships/promos deals, so I wasn't racing that
year...   :(

We were walking the track, and when we were in Turn2, a guy fell from his
montain bike in the "off camber" section of the Turn !!!
This was a participant in an ASA race during the same week-end.
The guy was so surprised about that corner's layout, that he asked if we
could help him to learn the "tricky" parts of the circuit.(Beeing a stock
car driver, he was also very unfamiliar with road courses).

That coaching allowed my friend Peter to get a free ride in his ASA's 2nd
car, so that racer could feel more confident about giving adequate
visibilty to his sponsors(we only had to pay the insurance premium...)

That corner is so tricky, that I've seen many cars go off into the grass
while letting faster cars by, simply because they were keeping the outside
line(which is off camber)...

Wow, that reminds me great souvenirs.....   :)

Cheers!

Exactly. Also, when I first started to learn Mosport, I was catching too
much air over the hills. So I just loaded more fuel on until I learned
how to go over the hills.

I wonder what was going through his mind as he sped toward that barrier.
Fear?  Anger?  Or just an "Oh, shit!"?  Probably a mixture of all, I'd bet.

Rob,

Mosport is my favorite track in gpl. Once you get the hang of it, you
can really fly. It has more challenges than any other track, and it's fast.

Just *lift* before going over the little bump on the back
straight and youll be fine. Then again, I think ZZ beat me at
Mosport, so pretend I did not say that ;-)
