SCGT Physics??

by Pickar » Tue, 06 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I've been playing SCGT for ages..  since it came out with what I thought
was with Pure Sim mode enables (with teh Adv. Opt. Editor)

Turns out.. that i've had it on Original, and now that i'm trying to go
back..  it just feels all wrong...

The cars have very little grip, and seem to FLOAT around in the turns..
surely a modern Sports Car doesn't move around that much...

I am good at GPL, and all other sims..   but I think this Pure Sim mode
is just a bit too much..  Then again, I think that in Original mode,
there is too much grip  :-)

So..  is there anyway to compromise??  get car physics that is in
between??

SCGT Physics??

Interesting difference of perception here. I've been using the
Advanced Options Editor since after the first time I played SCGT.
The "as-shipped" physics were WAY to forgiving, and I think the
advanced options improve it a lot, but still not enough.

With Advanced Options, I can still floor the throttle out of a first
or second gear corner with no wheelspin and no hint of spinning. Very
relaxed for a 300+ HP car without traction control.

You didn't inadvertently set it to the 60's mode, did you?
I love SCGT with the Advanced Options Editor, but I still wish the
handling was a touch more realistic.

Agreed Tim--the AO realistic option is better, but still hardly qualifies as
truly realistic.  The standard mode is just ridiculous.

SCGT Physics??

After having played GPL for months, I also find SCGT too easy even with the
Advanced Options Editor.  For a bit more challenge (and make SCGT a bit
closer to GPL), I set the rear suspension to maximum shock and spring
settings, front as firm as possible without getting terminal understeer,
reduce downforce to minimum, select hard tires and inflate to maximum, and
race in the rain wherever possible.

Question?  Just why would you want a 1999 500+HP, Winged, Full blown race car
with fat slicks to handle anything like a low-tec(by todays standards)1967 F1.
You might not like how SCGT cars handle (I like Viper much better) but why
would you want them to simulate '67 F1's?  I just don't understand that logic.
What I want is a sim that simulates the race car that it is suspose to.  If
accuracy mean that new race cars are easier to drive -so be it.  I certainly
hope we have made some progress in 30 years.  If 1999 race cars are just as
hard to drive as 1967's I'm shure glade I chose another career.  I would hate
to know that I spent 30 years of my life in an occupation that absolutely no
progress.  Paul
