i have just reinstalled scgt because after adding tracks and cars, the
game would drop the car in the middle of the grid backwards or
sideways.probaly messed up one of the track addons is my guess. anyway,
last night i added 13 tracks successfully except the carrerra track
which for some reason made its own folder and does not show up in the
game. i can live with that but know it seems that some of the engine
sounds are messed up. could someone please explain how to manage car
sounds in the game. my 22 bit sounds folder has 50 or so wave files but
im not sure if the game picks the right ones automatically or if i am
suppossed to assign each car its add-on sound somehow.i have the v-edit
program and i think that this needs to be tweaked to get the right
sounds. any and all advise is always appreciated.

                                          thanks,

 hmmm  what am I an SCGT expert???  :)
    The reason your car is getting dumped all wrong at the start is some of
the new tracks don't support a full field.  (at least I think it's the
reason)
Each track should have listed in the readme file just how many cars it will
support.  You have to lower the number of opponents when there are too many.
  Sounds are special for EACH car.
    Look in your patch folder.  There you will see 3 types of files, those
ending with .bmp.(pictures of the car) files ending in .mas(the data file
for each car) and files ending with .veh   These are the text files that
give each car it's personality,  i.e. front wheel drive, 6 speed or 5 speed
gearbox , torquey engine or a peaky one.  V8 or 4 cyl.  All the aspects of
the the cars can be altered in the .veh file.  Included in there are about 8
lines that define the sound.
Usually the last two are specific to you vehicle, so for every new car you
add, you should also have one or two sound files that have to be placed in
the sounds\16bit22hz folder.  Early on, when private users were first adding
cars to SCGT, they neglected to include the needed sound files.  So SCGT
users had to scour the net looking for the proper ones.  If you've added the
humongous Service Pak 3.0, you'll find many of those cars are missing sound
files.
  If you can't find the proper sound files, you can use vedit or even
notepad to change the last two sound lines to match an engine noise you DO
have.  (if I told you how big my sound folder was.......)
  here's the lines you need to look for.

[SOUNDS]
CSINSIDE_idle_rpm=1500.0
CSINSIDE_ENGINE_IDLE=IDLEIB.WAV
CSOUTSIDE_idle_rpm=1500.0
CSOUTSIDE_ENGINE_IDLE=IDLEEB.WAV
CSINSIDE_revved_rpm=6000.0
CSINSIDE_ENGINE_REVVED=VIPGT1.WAV
CSOUTSIDE_revved_rpm=6000.0
CSOUTSIDE_ENGINE_REVVED=VIPGT2.WAV
  the last two .wav files are the custom sounds for that car.(a Viper in
this example)
  If you can't find vipgt1.wav or vipgt2.wav then look in your sound folder
for some files that you can substitute.  (compare  another .veh file from a
car you
know has sound, then either copy the text or re-write it... in the original
soundless text file.0
good luck...If I've confused you, keep asking questions.
