N4 + Celeron results?

by Roger Litt » Wed, 14 Feb 2001 03:56:49

I am a little disappointed with the performance of N4 on my system.  I only
get about 25-35 fps during a race with 25 computer opponents.  I have all
graphics options on except for the following:  world detail slider at
around 70%, draw ahead at 70%, mirror turned off, 20 drawn ahead, 3 behind.
I am running in OpenGL at 1024x768x16 resolution with vsync and FSAA turned
off.

My system:

Abit BH6 mobo
256 MB generic PC133 RAM
GeForce2 GTS
Sidewinder FFB wheel
Windows2000 and WindowsME, runs the same in both

Is this about right for this sytem?  Could people with similar hardware
please post how well N4 runs on their system?  Would a 1GHZ Thunderbird be
much better?  Thanks.

Sounds a little slow to me. I run at a higher resolution than that with an
ASUS 7100 MX and get upwards of 40fps. Mirror is a big draw if it's all the
way up, also specular highlights I believe it's called takes up some fps.

I am running the same cpu, same motherboard, have 128 mb of pc100 ram, and
have a GeForce2 MX 32 mb card running win98 and DX8a.
I am averaging probably around 34-45 fps - full field of ai, world and
detail slider at 50%, draw ahead around 60%, 12 cars drawn ahead and 3
behind. I am running OpenGL 1024x768x16, also with vsync and fsaa disabled.
You did not mention what vid card drivers?
I am using the latest official det3 drivers from nvidia, version 6.50.
