Added 2nd Monster II -- GPL frame rate is the same

I added a second Monster II card to my system expecting a nice change
in my frame rate in GPL but was disappointed to learn that it doesn't
seem to have changed it at all.  I'm still at 19 or 20 fps on the
starting line and from 30 to 35 out on the course.  I checked in the
Monster II box in the control panel and it does show that both cards
are functioning.  In the Diamond MM FAQ, the only thing it says is
that if you don't have an improved frame rate, it only allows
increased size if you are running a 266 chip or below.  Except I'm
running a 400.  And yes, I can expand the resolution now, but that
wasn't really my objective.

Anybody have any suggestions?

GPL is locked to 36fps. So it will never go over that.
But you should be getting that easy. Give us some more System details Ram
etc.
you have got them linked with the SLI cable haven't you.
Try getting the latest drivers from Diamond or the Reference Drivers from
3dfx

<snip stuff about 2nd V2 card not improving frame rate in GPL)>

Take back your new V2 & get a V3 card...

Seriously, though - it's been common knowledge for a long time (around here)
that a second V2 card will do nothing for GPL frame rates since the textures
are not maxed for even a single V2.

Best options for improving frame rates in GPL after V2;
1. Faster processor
2. PCI sound card
3. Digital gameport or wheel

Randy

P.S. Hope you're not expecting a rebate from Diamond on that new V2... :)

I've experienced the same thing. I think the most important issue with GPL
is cache - the more you have the better. Also the Hercules Thriller 3D, with
the Rendition V2200 chip, seems to bring about a big change too, but it's
far from the best video card for most other applications.
Personally I consider GPL a flawed game as it is way too system dependent
compared with any other sim out
there. I have given up playing it until I upgrade to around the 500mhz cpu
mark.

Best wishes
Chris

Ah.  That settles one issue at least.  I had fantasies of 60 fps  :)

I have a P400, 64 megs of RAM and a Soundblaster Live Value card that
is supposed to free up a few cycles from what I've heard on here.

Yep.

Yeah, I need to do that because the installation INSISTED on loading
the drivers off the CD that came with the card which were 5.x
drivers...

I had the same problem, I have a pII 450, sblive, and Monster SLI. At
the start of races the framerate still dropped to 20 fps.
Then I found the solution:
I went to the advanced properties of the monster card, and selected
'don't sync buffer swaps to monitor refresh rate' for both glide and
direct3d.
En then I had 36fps allmost all of the time, except at the start, when
it drops to 30 for a second... but then immediately goes back to 36.
I have all the graphics on, all mirror details on, 16 sound channels,
1024 resolution, only the detail bias is set to 40%.

I heard SLI showed it's power in hi-res, like 1024x768. What's your
resolution?

I've kept it at 640x480 for the time being.  I'll try the higher res
and see if it works well.

BETA's some TNT 2 Ultras and a Voodoo 3 3500. Still only get 36FPS. This
is the max it seems to show.
