Try running OpenGL instead of d3d if you haven't already.  The Geforce cards seem to
perform better in OpenGL in N4.  Also make sure you are using a tried and true dirver
version, this does not always mean the latest.

Make sure antialiasing and v-sync are off.

Turn OFF FSAA and disable Sync.

Make sure you are using the latest Detonator 4 Drivers, and OpenGL.

You should be doing MUCH better than that, even with a P4 :)

Sorry to jump on this thread with my problem but...(see earlier post need
nvidia help) 1.7 P4 here too but TNT2 model 64 card. 20-25 fps and can't access
the advanced settings. Card came in a Sony Vaio so the settings may be disabled
in some way. Need a work around. Downloaded and installed 21.83 drivers.
sorry I couldn't help the original post.

That may be a 'Vanta' card, which isn't known for being particularly good at
3D performance.  It was the loweset-end TNT2 card available, and many OEM's
used it.

To this day I don't undertand why nVidia created that thing.  Most likely to
satisfy the ever-cheap OEM's, and since they made it they sold it retail too
as a low-end card.

I have one in a server.  It works good, but I won't use it for anything
other than 2D stuff.

Was the Vanta as bad using open GL as well? Should have used good sense and had
a puter built but the price ws right :)

I never found the Vanta good for anything other than 2D, really.  Simply way
too slow...

I have a very similar spec machine, and N4 works fine with the graphics
maxed giving 40 or 50 fps in a race (unless there is a crash when naturally
the AI, and the machine, go into meltdown trying to sort it out). In the
'configure 3d graphics' I initially selected the offered  Gforce 3  card,
and this gave poor performance, but below it in the scroll bar was an option
for Gforce 3 (TnL), this worked much better.
