GPL - spilt time utility ?

GPL - spilt time utility ?

hi,

Does anyone know if there is such thing as a split time utility for
GPL i.e one that shows your split times in three places on the track
in real time ?

I know it's not realistic and isn't very "1967" but I'd like to be
able to see how I'm doing mid-way round a hotlap. I've had a quick
search of the obvious sites and can't find anything so I'm not
confident but I thought I'd ask on here before I gave up.

ta,

Andy.

p.s. I know you can do it for replays of laps but I'm interested in
doing it as you drive.

Well, I have written such an utility but it only works under OpenGL
rendering and only with gpl 1.2.0.2.  It is still very beta and some
feedback would be welcome.  Maybe someone can give a hand on the Direct3D,
3dFx rendering.  You can check it out at
http://users.skynet.be/tom.demuer/gplhod.zip

There is also a screenshot of an earlier version at
http://users.skynet.be/tom.demuer/gplhod.jpg

It still needs a lot of work but it should run, if you have any questions go
ahead, and comment is welcome but it is still beta soft so be a little
gentle ;)

Btw, it doesnt show split times at 3 points but rather every 1.5 km, but
this "feature" of 3 checkpoints will be added soon, i'm still testing it.

Wow, looks pretty impressive, though I can't try it cause I can't get OpenGL
to work on my system :-(.  You should post it at Racsimcentral where
hopefully you'll find someone to help with D3D :-).  I know some may be
against it because the info wasn't available in 67 but I have no problem
with it myself, I like gpl mainly because it's an excellent simulation
reagardless of the season it simulates.  One question - one of the numbers
which appears to be the rev counter has 6 digits, why is that?  Or isn't it
a rev counter?

Wow!. Would it be possible in D3D too?
Does this work in race too?, like you see each laptime you did in a race?. I
miss that in GPL, and im pretty sure that it would have been possible in
real life :)

<SNIP>

Well I could use some help of some Direct3D guru's to make it work under
Direct3D.  It seems Direct3D gets the primary drawing and I draw it over
which causes enormous flickering, but it should work, but it hurts on the
eyes ;-), OpenGL doesn't have that problem.

Currently it only works in practice, but it is possible in race but it needs
work :)

I think I will be posting a message on racesimcentral but R.A.S. seemed also
a good place to ask for help :).  The screenshot is of an earlier version
and the layout was not really that.  The revcounter is 5 digits and the
"6th" digit is the gear you're in.  The revcounter changes color and
switches backgroundcolor when you go in redzone.

wow !

I wasn't expecting an answer as good as that - thanks :)

I'm off to download it now. I play in Direct3D so I'm hoping it's
going to be ok but I'll send you an email telling you how it goes.

thanks again,

Andy.

What happens when you run D3D in windowed mode, does it work properly?
This is a very useful util along the lines of GPL_Glance and GPLShift.
Great for new drivers.  But I'm sure diehards will hate it.   I'm
surprised no one mentioned this on the forums.

I can not run D3D windowed so I'm not sure but my guess is it will work.  I
will post a question on racesim anytime now but things are kinda busy :)
