screamer2 joypad woes

hello.
can anyone get the micro$oft sidewinder joypad working in screamer 2?
it just refuses to work. i've tried the micro$oft setup program, dos, win95
everything
has anyone managed to get it going? i have 2 of them (it doesnt work with
one OR two connected)
