Screamer2 and "Full On F1" demos from PC gamer mag.

To all,

I have tried the two demos last night from PC gamer magazine which are
as follows: I ran these on Pentium 150 and TSW wheel controller.

Screamer 2:

This demo allows you to race on one road track and I could only it to
run in the LOW RES 65k colors at this time. You are racing against 4
other cars on a country road course in England. You cna only select one
of four cars at this time and only one of five tracks.

The handling of the car is like you are on ice(completely different than
any other simulator - very touchy) where you power drive the car into
the corners. You can actually throw the car into the corners and power
accelerate out of the corners. There are many different views you can
race in, Arcade views,***pit view and others. The other feature
enabled in demo is the Replay features with same views used. There is
also a Race Cam view also, and can select any car to view. The demo
alows you to race 3 laps with the other cars and is very hard to keep up
with them until you get used to the cornering. It has other modes which
arent enabled which are championship mode and a ghost mode where you are
racing against a ghost car of yourself which is your best time(not sure
how this works since it is not enabled)

All in all, it is a neat and unique game to race. Be neat to see how the
SVGA graphics will look in this game.

Full On F1: by Europress

This is a new F1 arcade type game which contains on one track at this
time to run on(Silverstone). The game can only be run in low res mode at
this time and allows you to only go around 2-3 laps before it times out.
Graphics look fairly well detailed and the track handling in very good
also( this is my opinion). Its hard to drive the course in low res since
I am used to Hi RES in all my other games. Has many views that can be
selected in the demo, and the***pit view is very nice(steering wheel
actually turns- no hands though). It seems the level set is easy,
because I go by the other cars on the straights quite easily.  It has
auto breaking feature enabled for demo. The Function keys select views,
etc. Alot of help features enable such as what turn is coming up, when
to break, and other stats shown on the screen while driving. These can
be turned off also in demo. Its too bad they only give us a couple of
laps to run. I just start to get into the race and its over. Cant catch
the leaders yet. There is alot of other features but not enabled now.

This also looks like a neat F1 game to race on. Does not compare to GP2
far as simulation, but it was not intended to do that according to the
review article. This one also I would like to see in SVGA.

Thats two more racing games to look at in the future if you are an avid
racing buff.

Bye for now,

Dave Thayer

I've played these two games also.

Screamer 2 is highly entertaining. Even though the graphics are low
res they look very good indeed and the speed is impressive on my lowly
P100. The game is more like Sega Rally rather than the original
Screamer although the handling is not as "crisp" as the Sega game. It
is also quite a challenge to keep up with the computer cars. I managed
it for a lap - once ! It's not a sim, but it is a very nice game. Your
steering wheels will be taking a beating from all the opposite lock :)

Full On F1 (I think it has been renamed to Power F1) is very poor
indeed. The handling is vague and wooly. The graphics are slow even
though they are low res. Again the emphasis is on arcade rather than
sim, but if anyone put a game like this in an arcade no-one would be
spending any money on it !

I will buy Screamer 2 when it is released. I will not touch Full On F1
with a barge pole !

I hasten to add that these are my personal, highly subjective
opinions.

Hey  !
You burnt the following into my screen :

What do you mean with "crisp" ????????????
So you'll have to practice !
I personally think it's quite too easy (after several practising!) !

I'll buy it too because of the spilt-screen mode !!!!!!!!!!!

And please all messages via Email back to the Author too !!!
Thanks !
