HELP:Joypad problems in Destruction Derby 2

In Destruction Derby 2 I am having a problem. No matter how many times I
calibrate the joystick it always has the car pulling hard left. If I use
keyboard...no problem.
I have no steering problems in other games including Nascar2.
It is a cheapy joypad hooked to SB16

Any help or suggestions?
