NHRA and Burnout video cards

by Tabbe » Tue, 01 Dec 1998 04:00:00

I am in the market for a new computer, and am looking inot buying a Dell
450mhz XPS with 128 megs of ram.   I am going to get the new STB Ndivia TNT
16 Mb video card so that I can run NHRA drag racing.   Now my question is,
can I also install a 3dfx card in a PCI slot (The STB is in the AGP slot).
Will the computer recognize the two cards seperately, or will I run into some sort of
contention problem.   Please help as I would like to make my purchase this week
Thanks

You will be able to install both cards. The 3dfx card will only be used for
3dfx applications, bypassing the STB card (kinda). It wont pose a problem,
in fact that is a good combination of cards.

I recently purchased the same PC. You will be pleased with the overall performance,
but I've encountered some problems running NHRA on the RIVA TNT. The game appears
to have a replay bug on some video cards that causes replays to be truncated after about
20 seconds, which is aggravating (of course this is minor compared to most people's
experiences with this game!).
On a positive note, the AGP textures look fantastic, and the framerate is
exceptionally smooth. If you can live without replays in NHRA, the Dell works
nicely. BTW, the TNT screams on supported Direct3D games.

I would only get the 3dfx card for burnout. NHRA isn't that great of a
game at all. Burnout on the other hand rocks. I wouldn't spend the
extra 100 bucks.
