So sad, all of these titles had great promise.  Too bad they all couldn't be
made to the standard of ALL Papyrus sims, F1RS, and GP2.  I wish that anyone
who wished to create a driving sim wouldn't do it out of sheer greed, but
instead out of love for the sport.  I have spent TOO much money on worthless
"sims".  I guess I am just too trusting that the programmers have the love
of the sport that I do, and crave REALISM!!.

Multi-million dollar gambles aren't undertaken out of "sheer greed", not
for the ones doing the work, anyway. They do it out of their passion;
greed comes in only at the investor level. Where I'm concerned, more
power to them! The more greed there is, and the more they believe race
sims offer a good return, the more dollars there are to fund something
worthwhile. I wouldn't scorn those who failed so much as applaud the
ones who succeed. Those who tried and almost made it -- of the ones you
list, I only know CPR firsthand -- didn't exactly fail. CPR was oh, so
close! but still not there. I doubt this was for lack of commitment or
"love for the sport". (Even if I didn't love the sport, I can sure wrap
my lips around the technology!) Can you imagine *greed* driving a
technology gamble of that magnitude? I consider it more hope and blind
optimism.

Michael.

the one's doing the actual coding being pressured by the investors/management
causing the sheer greed in the first place still results in the same bottom
line.  a crappy game that will be in the bargain bin at your local software
store in a month and a half.

i guess this is one way to look at it.  do you own stock in one of these
publishing companies or something?

maybe in a perfect world this type of positive psychology would work.  welcome
to planet earth ...

i think maybe you have the explanation of your viewpoint a little mixed up.
it's nice to see a positive voice such as yours every once in awhile.  but this
time, i have to say 'negative'.  your outlook on the sodtware industry as it
currently stands is the _epitomy_ of blind hope and optimism.  as for myself,
i'm so sick of dropping my _hard_ earned $50 on buggy, incomplete,
ill-conceived, rushed, and half baked software that i could almost find the
urge to fly out to cali and go postal in the offices of such companies as
Jane's, Tantrum, and Sierra's non-papyrus titles.

however, with more companies producing software now, hopefully the 'survival of
the fittest' theory will come into play.  companies that put out crappy/buggy
games deserve to fold.  no remorse.  just don't buy their garbage, let others
know why you didn't, and substantiate your claims.

Well said! Greedy companies that produce garbage are parisites on the good companies.
Many people think that one companies software will be as good as anothers. WRONG! eg
people hear GP2 is great and so think any title released after it will be even better. I
wish this was true but it simply is not. I hope that somewhere along the line that those
who licence *SIMS* demand that a certain quality be met. I'd love to see licensing bodies
make companies show them the ?finished? product before giving them a license.
