...which racing wheel should I get??

The MS FF (somebody told me that it slows GPL down alot)?
The Logitech FF (sombody told me the pedals are ***(broke soon),
but it takes not so much CPU cycles away)?

or ???

BTW: PC Player (German Mag) reviewed DX wheels (MS and Saitek)
and I-Force W. (Logitech?) .
I.-Force draws 15 percent of the CPU and DX wheels only 5 percent...
Are todays I-Force drivers better?

Lutz, you're going to get about a 50/50 split on opinion on the question of
MSFF vs. Logitech.

Really, and with respect, go out a buy one of them from place where you can
return it for the other.  You're losing a lot of valuable racing time
casting about for opinions all the time!

Kurt

Totally agree, though I have to add that I don't understand the issue on
framerate decrease, I have a MSFF wheel and I don't have any framerate
problems...

In the UK at least, its not necessarily a given that the shop
will allow you to do this (take the wheel back and swap it
that is).

My experience is that PC World are fairly helpful, but expect
more of a fight in Dixons / Currys or Comet.
(This based on painful experience)

In an earlier post, I suggested a FAQ for FF wheels that might
allow information to be gathered together to provide a useful
resource.

For my part, I'm not convinced that it is worth 100
to have a wheel that systematically shakes itself to bits - my
trusty TM sprint manages that on its own.

I would have to recomend the Act Labs Force RS over both the MSFF and the
Logitech.  I know everybody has an opinion, but I have tried all 3 and I
think the Force RS is way ahead of the other FF wheels on the market right
now.  If for no other reason, it certainly feels more durable than the rest,
and it seems to have a much stronger motor. IMHO

Many of the fastest drivers in the world use non FF and even cheap
joysticks. As for me I'm sticking with a TM pro because it works fine. I
will switch someday....

The MS wheel is slower (more CPU cycles) though not nearly as bad as
the Thrustmaster wheel.

The Logitech wheel is a thing of beauty, first rate work there. The
pedals are solid enough (haven't hear of any braking) but have weak
springs and limited travel - they are fine once you get used to them.

The misconception on framerate hit on MSFF is outdated now. With the new
directX7a drivers, the CPU hits are almost nill (maybe 2 FPS tops). The
outdate information everyone is reading is old news before the latest
driver release.
I would still think logitech has it over MSFF on CPU load since it is USB
but no more than 1 FPS. If you have the system like you should have ,

computer, then by all means, forget the FF wheel and buy a better
computer!!

If you have a GAME store near you try them, they offer a 10 day exchange

How fast ist your PC (CPU)?? . Do you have a Voodoo3?
What about driving with the MSFF switching off FF  (in case I don`t
like it in GPL). Do you have the same handling as with a no FF Wheel
(f.a. the MS Precision Wheel)

My Hardware:

Asus TX97
AMD K6-2 400
Matrox Millennium II
Diamond Monster Voodoo1
32 MB SD
SB 16

Do you think it`s fast enough for the MS FF+GPL?

BTW: How is the MS FF connected to the PC?
My old SB16 has IMHO no midi port if needed...
Do they have also a USB MS FF Wheel?

BTW2: What about driving with the MSFF switching off FF  (in case I don`t
like it in GPL). Do you have the same handling as with a normal Wheel
(f.a. the MS Precision Wheel)?

Thanks!

Just do yourself a favor and buy the Logitech. It's a better wheel than the
MSFF. It's USB, it doesn't require much from your CPU, and it's solidly
built.
The wheel on the Logitech is so much better than the wheel on the Microsoft,
the only drawback are the pedals, they take time to get used to.
