MS FF Wheel OK for GPL?

Does anyone have any experience with this wheel? I'm not too worried
about the FF part, more of the accuracy of the steering, etc. as MS
doesn't use pots. I have a TM Sprint and an older TM Grand Prix. The
Sprint has a definite "twitch" to it, the GP isn't bad, but I would
like to move up in quality... So what's better, the MS FF or the high
end TM stuff?

I can't compare to the TM wheels, by my MS FF Wheel wor4ks great with GPL, and
compares very favorably with my old TSW.

In regards to accuracy and calibration,  the MS optical pots are super. No
twitches, spikes or calibration drift whatsoever.

I like it. the ability to switch back and forth easily from separated and
combined
brake and throttle on the pedals is nice.

The wheel has a very slight racheting thing as you turn it (with the
"return force" option set to off) that might be disturbing to some,
but I got used to it and kind of like this feedback on slight steering
motions. It's good with the higher resistance on also. Not sure
which I like best.

It has a lot of buttons and they all seem to be in good places.
The shift paddles behind the wheel are particularly nice.
The only ergonometric problem I have is keeping the clutch button
(set up as one of the 6 buttons onthe wheel face)
depressed with the wheel turned full when I'm finishing a slide.
(I only do this when I'm, err, "Testing" the wheel, you see ;)

There are no FF effects in GPL (yet!)

But the MS FF wheel has good effects as you can tell by the test forces
screen.

On Fri, 20 Nov 1998 01:13:24 -0600, "Matthew V. Jessick"

Just tried it for a few minutes in a demo setup in a shop, with Colin
McRae Rallye.

I only discovered the ForceFeedback on/off switch.
With FF off, the wheel showed no self-centering "force" as it
apparently has no springs like standard wheels, so it turns too easy.
I certainly don't like this. Maybe there is an option to simulate
standard springs - I don't know about it.

With FF on, the wheel rattles. It also has strong resistance, which is
nice and realistic (to me). But the FF effects are IMHO useless : few
rattling on a smooth track, tough rattling off-track. The FF effects
seem to be only a show, loosely related to the driving, and have no
real feedback as drivers expect.

So the GPL developers might have a point when they claim that FF is
not ready yet for realistic feedback. But I hope in the future it gets
much better.

6, atleast.

Maybe a little small, but they have short travel and a "click"
feedback.

The feedback you get depends on the sim. Viper racing seems to have
excellent ff effects with the wheel. I'm told the wheel gets loose as the
tires lose grip.

They are all like that, as far as I know...

It's not the wheel, but the game programming.

One of the best is Viper Racing.  It gives a good feel of tire grip and
slip, and even 'lightens' up as the front raises when power shifting.

Well done..

MTM2 isn't half bad.

NFS3 sucks.

Yes, that's really great. None of that crawling under the desk nonsense
to
switch my CH Pedals from plane to car mode anymore... ;^)

OTOH, now I have two pedal systems under my desk! It's getting
crowded...
