Logitech problem

My Logitech Wingman FFB is squeaking,  it sounds like fingernails on a chalk
board. It only happens when i release it or rurn it to the right.  I used
Logitech Email tech support and all they said to do was to return it if it
was within 30 days. BIG HELP!  AND ITS NOT WITHIN 30 DAYS!  I dare not drip
some lubrication in there, if i wrecked the electrics i would kill myself. I
think the squeek may have upgraded itself to a SCREECH!
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
           any suggestions?pleeeeeease

As far as I know this happens with all of them.  They told me to return mine
too.  It does go away after about 20 minutes of use, but comes back again
the next time.  Haven't heard a permanent fix yet.

Logitech problem

I just got a Logitec Wingman FF and it does not squeak, but it feels a little sticky or stiff when I rest the wait of my arms on it
and start to turn it. It feels like the steering shaft bushing is not lubricated.
I pulled the cover off and pushed some standard white lithium grease in the plastic bushing and now it turns a lot smoother.
It was a little bit of work to take the cover off and I dont thing it is possible to just drip a lube to the bearing with the cover
on. To take the cover off, you first pry off the round silver piece in the center of the wheel with a very thin screwdriver or
Knife. then unplug the small connector with the wires through the steering shaft. Bend the lock tab away from the steering nut and
remove the nut. I was surprised to find the steering shaft nut loose on my new wheel (loose nut behind the wheel :-)  )
The wheel now slides off the shaft. Turn the controller upside down and remove all of the smaller silver screws (the black ones hold
all the parts to the bottom) and take off the top cover. You can then put a lubricant in the bushing. I am not sure what is best
lube for plastic, but I use the white grease. I hope thats the only problem with the squall noise and not something like the motor
pulley slipping.

What's this loose nut doing out there ? Should it not be attached to the
shaft rock solid ?

I don't know if this will help or not but you may want to look at Mauritz
page.

http://w1.111.telia.com/~u11103812/lwff.htm

He talks about taking the motor out of the unit and free running it a couple
of hours in each direction.  This may help quiet the brushes.

I did this to mine when I first got it (it wasn't making any noise though)
and haven't had any problems.

The ball bearing modification also works great to eliminate the "stiction"
in the LWFF.

Exactly the same problem here. I was going to get a new one but from
what I read here it is a very common problem so perhaps it isn't any
idea. After a while I got used to it.

Does all you LWFF-users have this problem?

You do not want to tighten the wheel nut too tight, as it may crack the
circuit board under the nut.

I've used my LWFF daily for a year...no squeaks, no problems.

I also changed my logi to ball bearings as Mauritz described in his page.

Results:

Feeling first choice now, no more this sticky
Noise still in, although the mechanic itself is quite now (comes from the motor)
I let the motor run few hours, didn't help against the noise.
