I know this has been discussed before, but I didn't take any notice
cause it didn't apply to me, now it does.
I've just got a new puter with an awe64 gold sound card, I've disabled
the joystick port on this card and installed my acm card but I can't get
Billy Gates program to reconize my game card, ant ideas would be
appreciated. Thanks

How did you disable the joystick port on the awe64?  Go to win95 device
manager, click on "sound, video, and game controllers" and see what is
listed as your joystick port. If your joystick port on your soundcard is
shown as the active one, disable it in device manager by removing the check
in the "use original configuration" box. Then go to "add new hardware", DO
NOT let windows search for your new hardware, click on "sound, video, game
controllers" - or "other devices", scroll down and click on thrustmaster,
highlite the acm game card, and click on add. Unless you have oem service
release 2 of win95, this should work for you. I never could get SR2 to
remember these settings, had to keep adding them each time I booted the pc
up. After your done, click on device manager again, and on "sound, video ,
game controllers". You should see your sound card's joystick port with a
red x on it, and your acm gamecard should show with no conflicts.
Hope this helps,

I had the same problem and got round it by:

(i)     removing the AWE64, including the drivers
(ii)    installing the ACM card
(iii)   booting up Win95
(iv)    closing down again
(v)     installing the AWE64

This has resulted in a stable system which never enables the AWE64 game
port.

However, I'm about to try OSR2. . . . .

Does the soundcard port have a yellow exclamation point through it?

What I did with my son's computer was:

Removed the soundcard game port driver through the
control panel/system/device manager/sound video controller section.

I then rebooted windoze. It said it found new hardware and asked
for the disks. No problem. I simply cancelled that and it put a
yellow exclamation point through it. I verified it was gone by running
MSD.

I shutdown the machine and then installed the game card and
new software. windoze added the new joystick under the old port.

Harry

I have a computer -on order- that has the Awe64 value soundcard. Do you
know if my T2-wheel and pedals will work on the soundcard joystick port
or will I need to get a dedicated gamecard. Thanks for your advice.

It will work fine. The Fastlap champion in N2 uses same.

It should work just fine.  However, depending on the speed of your CPU &
bus, you may find that a speed adjustable gamecard might give you
"finer" control.  Give the Awe64 a go, and if you are happy with the
"feel" don't fret getting a dedicated gamecard.

Thanks. I'll give it a try.
