Thrustmaster ACM card on Pentium with T2 and FCS

by Robert L Ryde » Sat, 29 Jun 1996 04:00:00

Just purchased a Gateway Pentium 166 system with Matrox 2 meg WRAM.
Nascar and ICR2 run great now (moved from 486/66).

I have the Thrustmaster T2 and FCS joystick so naturally it makes
sense for me to use the Thrustmaster ACM Game Card, right?

I just purchased the ACM card last night.  It said Pentium compatible
on it.  I used the TMS speed adjuster to adjust the 1/A port for the
card/joystick.  Under Win95 I disabled my sound card port and checked
that there were no conflicts.  I calibrated the FCS joystick in Win95
with hat and all.  Tested it no problem.

The joystick wouldn't work at all.  It kept going up with the hat
in Duke Nukem 3D and continually scrolls up in ICR2 and Nascar.  Can't
get it to work for any game.  I noticed that when I turned the speed
dial, the views in Duke Nukem 3D would change from looking up to down,
to spinning around and backword controls (press forward to go backward
and vice versa).  I did run the FCS setup utility under DOS that came
with the card.  It helped only marginally.

FWIW, I used the T2 on my 486/66 with the CH game card and it worked
like a champ.  I'm thinking it is the speed of my computer that is
messing it up.  Any thoughts?

Anyone get the ACM card to work on a 166?  My T2 doesn't work with
my sound card game port.  If it did, I wouldn't have bought the ACM
card.  BTW, I have an Ensoniq PnP sound card.  Since, I've disabled
the Thrustmaster and have been using my joystick with the soundcard.
This means not much driving as I hate using the FCS driving.  I
prefer the CH Flightstick for joystick driving.  I could switch off
I suppose until I find a solution.

Thanks,
Rob Ryder
