Win95 is pretty cool, once you figure out how to do everything the way it likes them
to be done! Since Indycar and I'm assuming Nascar have to be run in dos mode, then
the computer reboots each time you want to play it. What you need to do is create a
shortcut to the game. Once you have made the shortcut, right-click the shortcut to
bring up the "properties" box. In that box, click the "program" tab at the top. Then
click the "advanced" button, and check the box that says "ms-dos mode" to force dos
mode. Then at the bottom of this box is an area that will allow you to specify a
special config.sys and autoexec.bat file when running this program. (I'm getting
ahead of myself... first do this!) Before you can fill in these boxes, you need to
turn off your machine, and turn it back on. When it says "starting windows 95" press
the F8 key, and select "6" ms-dos mode only. your computer will boot to a dos
prompt. This is where I went and configured my sound card with the software for the
sound card (the diagnose.exe for soundblasters). It told me that it was at address 220, irq
7, low dma 3, high dma 7. This program changed my autoexec.bat and config.sys files to
match. I then went to the icr2 demo setup and went to setup sound card. It recognized the
same settings, and I got the sample to work (Paul Page's voice). Then I copied these
autoexec.bat and config.sys files and put them in the special boxes in the shortcut
properties.
Whew! take a break here.....
Then, when you click on the shortcut, it should tell you it's going to boot to dos
mode to run the game, and it will use the special autoexec.bat and config.sys that
you told it to use. My computer actually has no autoexec.bat or config.sys normally,
so I just delete them from my root directory when I've copied them to the properties
box. If you still have trouble, write me and I'll try to help out, I may not have
been clear in explaining, or may have missed something....
