: I'm at my wits end with this problem. My sound works fine in dos but
: if I run nascar2 in win95 I get no sound at all. Neither Sierra or NEC
: have been any help. They both tell me to turn to the other one for
: answers. I have an "NEC Ready 9624" system. It has a Yamaha OPL3-SA
: sound card if I'm not mistaken. Sierra tells me that it won't
: recognise the sound card in win95 because its not recognising the dos
: drivers. Ofcourse they had no advise to help me with this. LOL. I did
: the full install of N2 if that helps at all. Lets face it, I'm not the
: smartest guy when it comes to specifics in computers. I just wanna
: race. Its no fun trying to race on Kali through win95 with no sound as
: you can imagine. Thank you in advance for any help anyone can give me.
First, it sounds like Sierra may not know of what they are talking
about. It's very likely that you have no "DOS" drivers in Win95. If
your sound card is new enough it has virtual drivers. Though, there
maybe a problem with them. Are you able to get sound out of any other
DOS based program in Win95?
You may want to try changing some of the "IRQs" or "DMAs" assigned your
card in the Win95 Control Panel->System->Device Manger. Also, I know
it's obvious, but make sure you run the NASCAR2 Setup for detecting your
sound card when running it under Win95. As your Win setup may have
different IRQ/DMA settings than your DOS setup. Do you have any
soundcard drivers being installed in your Win95 Config.sys or
Autoexec.bat? If so you may want to try "rem'ming" them out and
reboot your system.
Another suggestion, post your problem in the following newsgroups:
comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard.games
comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard.misc
comp.sys.ibm.pc.soundcard.tech
Please try to include as much information about your system as possible.
Especially the "exact" brand and model of your soundcard. If your docs
aren't really explicit about this information, call the tech support for
your computer system (if the card came with it). It would also be
helpful if you included the lines in your DOS Config.sys & Autoexec.bat
files when the sound works. Include the "devices" listed in the
Control Panel->System->Device Manger->Sound, video and game controllers.
If you include enough information on your system and its set-up, you
will be more likely to receive replies (and intelligent ones at that).
Have you "searched" www.sierra.com for such keywords as "sound",
"NASCAR", "Win95", or "windows"? This topic may have already been
covered in a couple of their discussion areas.
Good luck and happy racing....
