WIN95+nascar+sound+joystick

Here is my problem

here are the steps i went through to begin running NASCAR

First my system.... a GATEWAY2000 p5-100Mhz 8 meg ram
64-Bit PCi Graphics Accelerator w/2mb DRAM
                    Sound Blaster 16 with WIn95

Steps

1...loaded NASCAR completely to the hard disk with CD-ROM
2...ran setup to configure sound card and chose auto configure
3...it began and the gave me an error..could not find path to sound card

Win95 does not use an autoexec.bat or config.sys file.  Therefore
you have to use the shortcut method in win95 and setup these files from
within win95.  I also have indycar and did this and it works fine.

4.  I did not worry about the sound cause i new you had to go through win95
to get it working.  Next i plugged in my Gravis Analog Joystick which
come to find out also would not work from dos

5.  ran the nascar executable and played using the keyboard for a while
6.  opened Win95 and proceeded with configuring the config.sys and autoexec.bat
using the shortcut methoed and advanced properties
7.  clicked on my shortcut nascar icon and began running in MSdos mode and
using the autoexec.bat and config.sys files that I set
8.  Ran perfect even in SVGA but I had no sound.

Does this sound like a problem that anyone has had and do you think
that i must run the setup to get my sound card working and if so
can i run the setup from The MAIN menu?  That would be the easiest way for me.
