N2 and Joystick Support through Win95

Anyone out there run into this problem. I can calibrate my TSW Steering
wheel / pedal set in Win95 Control Panel but when I launch Nascar2 it
only allows me to use the keyboard for control. If I select Joystick
calibrate in N2 it shows me -1 values for both x and y axis. I can then
exit N2 and run calibrate in Win95 no probs but everytime I launch N2 I
have no joystick. Every other game works with this wheel through Win95 -
just not N2. I have even tried using a regular joystick and same thing
happens. My gameport on my AWE32 has been disabled and I am using a CH
GameCard. I have also tried a Gravis GameCard and same thing happens. ANY
SUGGESTIONS???????????????????

N2 and Joystick Support through Win95

Hi Bruno,

Here are my experiences:

When I start N2 with my T2 plugged in, it doesn't recognize
the pedals (I get -1 if I try to calibrate them). But if I
plug in my joystick (CH Flightstick) in, then start N2, then
it is recognized.

If I then go to calibrate the joystick in N2, and while it
is calibrating, I unplug the joystick and plug in the T2,
then N2 can recognize the T2! So I then calibrate the T2
and I can use it. (warning: I have read that it can be
risky to plug/unplug joysticks while the power is on...
I obviously ignored this warning!)

But the calibration of the T2 is very jumpy.. It should normally
range between 8 and 800 (not sure about the numbers...) but it
almost always jumps in the 2200's at one point, which screws
up the calibration. I have to retry many times. (this problem
occurs for the wheel x-axis *and* the pedals y-axis).

I have read on www.wheretorace.com about this problem.
They seem to suggest that the problem is because of the
SB AWE32's joystick port (I have an older AWE32 that is
not PnP). Their possible solutions are:
1) Run Nascar2 in MSDOS mode
2) Get a newer PnP sound card
3) Use a speed adjustable game card

I was going to follow their advice and buy a game card,
but since you have one and still have the problem, I'm
a bit reluctant to dish out the cash to try it out...

Can anyone else help us???

BTW my T2 also calibrates ok in the Win95 joystick
control panel.. although it seems to behave strangely
when I press test (doesn't seem to use the full range).

I have the same problem.
It only appears if running the N2 with the Rendition DMA mode.
What seems to work is to calibrate the Win95 Joystick several times and
then
run N2 from its icon.  Unfortunately this has to be done every time you
go to
run N2.
Game cards seemed to run smoother and more reliably, but did not fix the
problem.  Seems like a bug in the DMA mode version or a conflict with
the
Joystick port even though a joystick only uses I/O and not DMA.
Any suggestions for a permanent fix would be appreciated.

Does it happen all the time (or sometimes only some axes are
affected)?  I have had it happen periodically when I run N2 from
Win95.  My fix is to shutdown Win95 to DOS and run N2 from there.
I've got a P133/Reactor/*CH gamecard*/2 CH Mach 1 joysticks.

Before you send me UCE, I know what you're thinking...  Did he complain
to five or six postmasters last month?  Now, you must ask yourself one
question: "Do I feel lucky?"  Well, do you, punk?
